Preparations for the Temple

(2 Chronicles 2:1–10)

Now when Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been anointed king in his father’s place, he sent envoys to Solomon; for Hiram had always been a friend of David. 1Ch 14:11Ki 5:102Ch 2:32Sa 5:11Psa 45:121Ki 5:131Ki 9:12-14Amo 1:9

And Solomon relayed this message to Hiram: 2Ch 2:3

“As you are well aware, due to the wars waged on all sides against my father David, he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet. 1Ch 28:31Ch 22:8Psa 110:11Ch 22:4-61Co 15:25Psa 8:62Ch 6:6-82Sa 7:5-11 But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or crisis. 1Ch 22:91Ki 4:24Act 9:31Isa 9:7Psa 72:7

So behold, I plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD said to my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.’ 1Ch 17:121Ch 22:102Sa 7:12-131Ch 28:61Ch 28:10Zec 6:12-132Ch 2:1-8

Now therefore, order that cedars of Lebanon be cut down for me. My servants will be with your servants, and I will pay your servants whatever wages you set, for you know that there are none among us as skilled in logging as the Sidonians.” 2Ch 2:81Co 12:14-211Ki 6:161Ki 6:201Ki 6:9-102Ch 2:10Eph 4:7Ezr 3:7

Hiram’s Reply to Solomon

(2 Chronicles 2:11–18)

When Hiram received Solomon’s message, he rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the LORD this day! He has given David a wise son over this great people!” Isa 9:6Pro 23:241Ki 1:481Ki 10:91Ki 3:92Ch 2:11-122Ch 9:7-8Gen 33:5 Then Hiram sent a reply to Solomon, saying: 1Ki 6:151Ki 6:342Ch 3:52Sa 6:5

“I have received your message; I will do all you desire regarding the cedar and cypress 1timber. My servants will haul the logs from Lebanon to the Sea, 2 and I will float them as rafts by sea to the place you specify. There I will separate the logs, and you can take them away. And in exchange, you can meet my needs by providing my household with food.” Ezk 27:17Ezr 3:72Ch 2:16Act 12:202Ch 1:15Deu 3:25

So Hiram provided Solomon with all the cedar and cypress timber he wanted, and year after year Solomon would provide Hiram with 20,000 cors of wheat 3as food for his household, as well as 20,000 baths of pure olive oil. 4 2Ch 2:101Ki 4:22

And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as He had promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty. 5 1Ki 3:12Amo 1:91Ki 15:192Ch 1:12Gen 21:32Jas 1:51Ki 4:29

Solomon had 70,000 porters and 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, 1Ki 9:20-222Ch 2:17-182Ch 8:7-9Ezr 2:58Neh 7:57Neh 7:60 not including his 3,300 6foremen who supervised the workers. 1Ki 9:232Ch 2:2
