David Spares Saul

After Saul had returned from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, “David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.” 1Sa 23:28-291Sa 23:19Ezk 22:9Hos 7:3Pro 25:5Pro 29:12 So Saul took three thousand chosen men from all Israel and went to look for David and his men in the region of the Rocks of the Wild Goats. 1Sa 26:21Sa 13:2Psa 104:18Psa 141:6Psa 37:32Psa 38:12

Soon Saul came to the sheepfolds along the road, where there was a cave, and he went in to relieve himself. 1 And David and his men were hiding in the recesses of the cave. Jdg 3:24Psa 142:1-7Psa 57:1-11Psa 141:6 So David’s men said to him, “This is the day about which the LORD said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do with him as you wish.’” 1Sa 26:8-111Sa 24:101Sa 26:231Sa 25:28-301Sa 23:171Sa 23:71Sa 24:182Sa 4:8

Then David crept up secretly and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.

Afterward, David’s conscience was stricken because he had cut off the corner of Saul’s robe. 2Sa 24:101Jn 3:20-212Ki 22:192Sa 12:9 So he said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD’s anointed. May I never lift my hand against him, since he is the LORD’s anointed.” 2Sa 1:141Sa 26:9-11Job 31:29-30Rom 12:141Ki 21:31Th 5:15Mat 5:44

With these words David restrained his men, and he did not let them rise up against Saul. Then Saul left the cave and went on his way. Mat 5:44Psa 7:41Sa 25:33Rom 12:17-21

After that, David got up, went out of the cave, and called out to Saul, “My lord the king!” 1Sa 25:23-241Sa 20:411Sa 26:17Exo 20:12Gen 17:3Rom 13:71Pe 2:17

When Saul looked behind him, David bowed facedown in reverence and said to Saul, “Why do you listen to the words of men who say, ‘Look, David intends to harm you’? Ecc 7:21-22Pro 29:121Sa 26:19Jas 3:6Lev 19:16Pro 16:28Pro 17:4Pro 18:8 Behold, this day you have seen with your own eyes that the LORD delivered you into my hand in the cave. I was told to kill you, but I spared you and said, ‘I will not lift my hand against my lord, since he is the LORD’s anointed.’ 1Sa 24:4Psa 105:151Sa 26:8-9

See, my father, look at the corner of your robe in my hand. For I cut it off, but I did not kill you. See and know that there is no evil or rebellion in my hands. I have not sinned against you, even though you are hunting me down to take my life. 1Sa 26:201Sa 23:141Sa 23:231Sa 26:182Ki 5:13Jhn 15:251Sa 18:27Ezk 13:18

May the LORD judge between you and me, and may the LORD take vengeance on you, but my hand will never be against you. Jdg 11:27Psa 43:1Psa 35:1Gen 16:51Pe 2:23Job 5:8Psa 94:1Rom 12:19 As the old proverb says, ‘Wickedness proceeds from the wicked.’ But my hand will never be against you. Mat 7:20Mat 7:16-18Mat 12:33-34Mat 15:19

Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom are you pursuing? A dead dog? A flea? 1Sa 26:201Sa 17:432Sa 9:81Ki 21:72Sa 16:92Sa 3:8Jdg 8:1-32Sa 6:20 May the LORD be our judge and decide between you and me. David’s Oath to Saul

When David had finished saying these things, Saul called back, “Is that your voice, David my son?” 1Sa 26:17Act 6:10Gen 33:4Job 6:25Luk 21:15Pro 15:1Pro 25:11

Then Saul wept aloud and said to David, “You are more righteous than I, for you have rewarded me with good, though I have rewarded you with evil. Mat 5:441Sa 26:21Gen 38:26Rom 12:20-21Exo 9:27Mat 27:4Psa 37:6 And you have shown this day how well you have dealt with me; for when the LORD delivered me into your hand, you did not kill me. 1Sa 26:231Sa 23:121Sa 23:71Sa 24:101Sa 26:8Psa 31:8 When a man finds his enemy, does he let him go away unharmed? May the LORD reward you with good for what you have done for me this day. 1Sa 23:211Sa 26:25Jdg 17:2Pro 25:21-22Psa 18:20

Now I know for sure that you will be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hands. 1Sa 23:172Sa 3:17-18Mat 2:3-61Sa 13:141Sa 20:30-31Job 15:25Mat 2:13Mat 2:16 So now, swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants or wipe out my name from my father’s house.” Gen 21:232Sa 21:6-81Sa 20:14-17Gen 31:48Gen 31:53Heb 6:16

So David gave his oath to Saul. Then Saul returned home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold. 1Sa 23:29Jhn 2:24Mat 10:16-17Pro 26:24-25
