The Plot against Daniel

Now it pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, Exo 18:21-22Dan 5:31Est 1:11Pe 2:14 and over them three administrators, including Daniel, to whom these satraps were accountable so that the king would not suffer loss. Dan 2:48-49Dan 5:16Dan 5:29Est 7:4Ezr 4:221Co 4:21Sa 2:30Luk 16:2 Soon, by his extraordinary spirit, Daniel distinguished himself among the administrators and satraps. So the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. Dan 5:14Gen 41:38-41Pro 22:29Dan 5:12Est 10:3Dan 9:23Pro 17:27Pro 3:3-4

Thus the administrators and satraps sought a charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no charge or corruption, because he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was found in him. 1Pe 3:16Php 2:151Pe 2:12Luk 20:20Luk 23:14-15Tit 2:8Mat 27:18Psa 37:32-33 Finally these men said, “We will never find any charge against this Daniel, unless we find something against him concerning the law of his God.” Act 24:13-161Sa 24:17Act 24:20-21Est 3:8Jhn 19:6-7

So the administrators and satraps went together to the king and said, “O King Darius, may you live forever! Therefore King Darius signed the written decree. Psa 118:9Psa 146:3Isa 2:22Pro 6:2Psa 62:9-10

Daniel in the Lions’ Den

Now when Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Act 5:29Psa 55:171Th 5:17-18Psa 95:6Heb 13:15Php 4:6Psa 34:1Psa 5:7 Then these men went as a group and found Daniel petitioning and imploring his God. Psa 37:32-33Psa 10:9Dan 6:6 So they approached the king and asked about his royal decree: “Did you not sign a decree that for thirty days any man who petitions any god or man except you, O king, will be thrown into the den of lions?” Dan 6:8Dan 3:8-12Est 1:19Act 16:19Act 16:24Act 24:2-9

The king replied, “According to the law of the Medes and Persians the order stands, and it cannot be repealed.”

Then they told the king, “Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, shows no regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed. He still makes his petition three times a day.” Dan 3:12Act 5:29Dan 2:25Dan 5:13Est 3:8Dan 1:6Act 17:7

As soon as the king heard this, he was deeply distressed and set his mind on delivering Daniel, and he labored until sundown to rescue him. Mrk 6:262Sa 3:28-29Dan 3:13Jhn 19:7-12Luk 23:13-21Mat 27:17-24

Then the men approached the king together and said to him, “Remember, O king, that by the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or ordinance established by the king can be changed.” Dan 6:12Dan 6:8Est 8:8Psa 94:20-21

So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the den of lions. Psa 37:39-40Job 5:19Psa 91:14-16Dan 3:28Isa 43:22Sa 3:39Psa 118:8-9Dan 3:17

The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!”

A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that nothing concerning Daniel could be changed. Lam 3:53Act 12:4Act 16:23-24Mat 27:60-66

Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting. No entertainment was brought before him, and sleep fled from him. Dan 2:1Est 6:12Sa 12:16-17Psa 77:41Ki 21:272Sa 19:24Amo 6:4-6Ecc 2:8

At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the den of lions. 1Th 3:52Co 2:13Mat 28:1Mrk 16:2 When he reached the den, he cried out in a voice of anguish, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” 1Ch 16:11Dan 6:27Heb 7:252Ti 4:16-18Dan 6:161Th 5:17-18Dan 3:17Jas 1:25

Then Daniel replied, “O king, may you live forever! Dan 2:4Dan 6:6Neh 2:3 My God sent His angel and shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, for I was found innocent in His sight, and I have done no wrong against you, O king.” 2Ti 4:17Heb 11:33Act 12:11Psa 91:11-13Act 24:16Psa 84:111Jn 3:19-21Dan 3:28

The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den, and when Daniel was lifted out of the den, no wounds whatsoever were found on him, because he had trusted in his God. 1Ch 5:20Dan 3:27-28Dan 3:25Mrk 9:23Dan 6:18Isa 26:3Pro 18:10Psa 37:40

At the command of the king, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought and thrown into the den of lions—they and their children and wives. And before they had reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones. Isa 38:13Est 7:102Ki 14:6Deu 19:18-20Deu 24:16Est 9:25Jos 7:24-25Psa 54:5
