The Eighth Plague: Locusts

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened 1his heart and the hearts of his officials, that I may perform these miraculous signs of Mine among them, Exo 4:21Exo 3:20Exo 7:13-14Rom 9:171Sa 4:8Exo 14:17-18Exo 15:14-15Exo 7:4 and that you may tell your children and grandchildren how severely I dealt with the Egyptians when I performed miraculous signs among them, so that all of you may know that I am the LORD.” Jol 1:3Deu 4:9Deu 6:20-22Exo 13:14Exo 7:17Psa 44:1Psa 78:5-6Eph 6:4

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may worship Me. 1Pe 5:61Ki 21:29Jas 4:10Heb 12:25Jer 13:18Rom 2:41Ki 18:212Ch 33:12 But if you refuse to let My people go, I will bring locusts into your territory tomorrow. Rev 9:3Jol 2:25Exo 11:4-5Exo 8:10Exo 8:23Exo 9:18Exo 9:5Jol 1:4-7 They will cover the face of the land so that no one can see it. They will devour whatever is left after the hail and eat every tree that grows in your fields. Exo 9:32Jol 1:4Jol 2:25 They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian—something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land.’” Exo 8:21Exo 8:3Exo 10:11Exo 10:14-15Exo 11:6Exo 11:8Exo 9:24Heb 11:27

Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.

Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is in ruins?” 1Sa 18:21Ecc 7:26Exo 23:33Jos 23:131Co 7:35Exo 8:19Isa 14:20Isa 51:9

So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the LORD your God,” he said. “But who exactly will be going?” Exo 10:24Exo 10:16Exo 12:31Exo 8:8

“We will go with our young and old,” Moses replied. “We will go with our sons and daughters, and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the LORD.” 1Co 5:7-8Deu 31:12-13Exo 5:1Exo 3:18Ecc 12:1Eph 6:4Exo 13:6Exo 5:3

Then Pharaoh told them, “May the LORD be with you if I ever let you go with your little ones. Clearly you are bent on evil. 2Ch 32:15Exo 12:30-31Exo 13:21Lam 3:37 No, only the men may go and worship the LORD, since that is what you have been requesting.” And Moses and Aaron were driven from Pharaoh’s presence. Exo 10:28Psa 119:69Exo 5:4Psa 52:3-4

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, so that the locusts may swarm over it and devour every plant in the land—everything that the hail has left behind.” Exo 7:19Exo 10:4-5

So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and throughout that day and night the LORD sent an east wind across the land. By morning the east wind had brought the locusts. Exo 14:21Gen 41:6Jon 1:4Jon 4:8Mat 8:27Psa 105:34Psa 107:25-28Psa 148:8

The locusts swarmed across the land and settled over the entire territory of Egypt. Never before had there been so many locusts, and never again will there be. Psa 78:461Ki 8:37Deu 28:42Exo 10:5-6Exo 11:6Jol 1:2-4Jol 2:1-11Psa 105:34-35 They covered the face of all the land until it was black, and they consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees that the hail had left behind. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant in all the land of Egypt. Exo 10:5Jol 1:6-7Jol 2:1-11Jol 2:25Psa 105:34-35Psa 78:46

Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you. Exo 9:271Sa 15:241Sa 15:301Sa 26:212Sa 19:20Job 34:31-32Mat 27:4Num 21:7 Now please forgive my sin once more and appeal to the LORD your God, that He may remove this death from me.” Exo 8:8Exo 9:281Ki 13:61Sa 15:252Co 1:102Ki 4:40Act 8:24Isa 26:16

So Moses left Pharaoh’s presence and appealed to the LORD. Exo 8:28-30Exo 8:9Luk 6:28Mat 5:44 And the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind that carried off the locusts and blew them into the Red Sea. 2 Not a single locust remained anywhere in Egypt. Jol 2:20Exo 13:18Exo 15:4Heb 11:29

But the LORD hardened 3Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go. Exo 4:21Exo 11:10Deu 2:302Th 2:11-12Exo 7:13-14Exo 9:12Isa 6:9-10Jhn 12:39-40

The Ninth Plague: Darkness

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that darkness may spread over the land of Egypt—a palpable darkness.” 2Pe 2:172Pe 2:4Jud 1:6Luk 23:44Rev 16:10-11Deu 28:29Exo 9:22Isa 8:21-22

Exo 8:221Pe 2:9Exo 9:4Isa 42:16Col 1:13Exo 14:20Exo 9:26Isa 60:1-3

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the LORD. Even your little ones may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.” Exo 10:8-10Exo 8:28Exo 9:28Gen 34:23

But Moses replied, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God. Exo 29:1-46Lev 16:9Lev 9:22Exo 36:1-38 Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind, for we will need some of them to worship the LORD our God, and we will not know how we are to worship the LORD until we arrive.” 2Co 8:5Act 2:44-45Exo 12:32Heb 11:8Hos 5:6Isa 23:18Isa 60:5-10Pro 3:9

But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was unwilling to let them go. Exo 10:20Exo 4:21Exo 14:4Exo 14:8Exo 10:1Rev 16:10-11Rev 9:20 “Depart from me!” Pharaoh said to Moses. “Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.” 2Ch 16:102Ch 25:16Amo 7:13
