The Sabbath Rest
(Genesis 2:1–3; Exodus 16:22–30)
Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it. Heb 12:15Heb 4:9Pro 28:141Co 9:26-27Heb 4:111Co 10:12Heb 13:7Heb 4:3-5 For we also received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, since they did not share the faith of those who comprehended it. 1 1Th 2:13Rom 10:16-17Heb 11:6Heb 3:18-191Ti 4:8Act 13:46Jas 1:211Co 13:3
Now we who have believed enter that rest. As for the others, it is just as God has said: Psa 95:11Mat 11:28-291Pe 1:20Eph 1:4Gen 1:31Heb 9:26Heb 3:11Isa 28:12
“So I swore on oath in My anger,
‘They shall never enter My rest.’” 2
And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world. For somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: “And on the seventh day God rested from all His works.” 3 Exo 20:11Exo 31:17Gen 2:1-2Heb 2:6 And again, as He says in the passage above: “They shall never enter My rest.” Psa 95:11Heb 3:11Heb 4:3
Since, then, it remains for some to enter His rest, and since those who formerly heard the good news did not enter because of their disobedience, Mat 21:43Heb 3:18-19Act 13:46-47Act 28:28Heb 4:2Mat 22:9-10Gal 3:8Heb 4:9 God again designated a certain day as “Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was just stated: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” 4 Psa 95:7Heb 3:7-8Heb 3:15Mat 22:432Sa 23:1-2Act 28:251Ki 6:1Act 2:29
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. Jos 1:15Jos 22:4Deu 12:9Heb 11:13-15Jos 23:1Act 7:45Psa 78:55Deu 25:19 There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 1Pe 2:10Rev 21:4Rev 7:14-17Heb 3:11Isa 11:10Heb 4:3Heb 11:25Heb 4:1 For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. Rev 14:13Heb 4:3-41Pe 4:1-2Jhn 19:30Heb 10:12Heb 1:3 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience. The Living Word
(2 Timothy 3:10–17)
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Jer 23:29Isa 55:11Eph 6:17Psa 119:1301Pe 1:23Isa 49:2Rev 1:161Th 2:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. 1Co 4:5Psa 33:13-15Pro 15:3Ecc 12:141Sa 16:72Co 5:10Jer 17:10Job 34:21
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess. Heb 9:24Heb 12:2Heb 10:23Heb 9:12Heb 6:20Eph 4:10Heb 2:17Heb 8:1 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin. Heb 2:17-182Co 5:21Isa 53:4-51Jn 3:51Pe 2:22Php 2:7-8Heb 7:26Heb 4:14 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
