The Perfect High Priest
(Psalms 110:1–7)
Every high priest is appointed from among men to represent them in matters relating to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. Heb 8:3Heb 10:11Heb 11:4Heb 2:17Heb 7:27Heb 9:9Lev 9:15-21Exo 29:1-37 He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided, since he himself is beset by weakness. Heb 4:15Heb 2:182Co 12:9-10Heb 7:28Heb 12:132Co 12:5Gal 4:13Num 15:22-29 That is why he is obligated to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. Heb 9:7Lev 16:6Lev 9:7Heb 7:27Lev 16:15Lev 4:3-12Exo 29:12-19Lev 8:14-21
No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. Exo 28:1Num 16:40Num 16:51Ch 23:132Ch 26:18Jhn 3:27Num 16:35Num 16:46-48 So also Christ did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a high priest, but He was called by the One who said to Him: Psa 2:7Jhn 8:54Jhn 7:18Act 13:33Heb 1:5Rom 8:3Heb 1:1Mic 5:2
“You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father.” 1
And in another passage God says: Psa 110:4Heb 7:17Heb 7:21Heb 7:3Gen 14:18-19Heb 5:10Heb 6:20Heb 7:15
“You are a priest forever
in the order of Melchizedek.” 2
During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. Milk and Solid Food
(1 Corinthians 3:1–9)
We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain, because you are dull of hearing.
