Pashhur Persecutes Jeremiah
When Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer and the chief official in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things, 1Ch 24:14Ezr 2:37-382Ki 25:18Neh 7:40-412Ch 35:8Act 4:1Act 5:24 he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD. Jer 37:132Ch 16:10Jer 1:19Zec 14:101Ki 22:272Ch 24:21Amo 7:10-13Jer 29:26
The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The LORD does not call you Pashhur, but Magor-missabib. 1 Jer 20:10Jer 46:5Lam 2:22Psa 31:13Isa 8:3Jer 6:25Act 16:30Act 16:35-39 For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. And I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will carry them away to Babylon and put them to the sword. Jeremiah’s Complaint
You have deceived me, O LORD, and I was deceived. Hos 9:7Jer 20:9Lam 3:14Ezk 3:14Psa 22:6-7Psa 69:9-121Co 4:9-131Co 9:6
You have overcome me and prevailed.
I am a laughingstock all day long;
everyone mocks me.
For whenever I speak, I cry out; 2Ch 36:16Jer 6:101Pe 4:14Heb 11:26Heb 13:13Jer 13:13-14Jer 15:1-4Jer 15:13-14
I proclaim violence and destruction.
For the word of the LORD has become to me
a reproach and derision all day long.
If I say, “I will not mention Him Psa 39:3Job 32:18-20Act 4:201Co 9:16-17Act 17:16Ezk 3:142Co 5:13-15Jer 6:11
or speak any more in His name,”
His message becomes a fire burning in my heart,
shut up in my bones,
and I become weary of holding it in,
and I cannot prevail.
For I have heard the whispering of many: Psa 41:9Psa 31:13Isa 29:21Jer 18:18Act 24:13Ezk 22:9Jer 6:25Pro 10:18
“Terror is on every side!
Report him; let us report him!”
All my trusted friends
watch for my fall:
“Perhaps he will be deceived
so that we may prevail against him
and take our vengeance upon him.”
But the LORD is with me like a fearsome warrior. Jer 1:19Jer 1:8Jer 15:20Isa 41:10Jer 17:18Psa 40:14Psa 6:10Psa 35:26
Therefore, my persecutors will stumble and will not prevail.
Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly put to shame,
with an everlasting disgrace that will never be forgotten.

Praise the LORD!
For He rescues the life of the needy

Cursed be the man who brought my father the news, Gen 21:5-6Jer 1:5Luk 1:14

bringing him great joy.

May he hear an outcry in the morning
and a battle cry at noon,
because he did not kill me in the womb Job 10:18-19Job 3:10-11Ecc 6:3Job 3:16
so that my mother might have been my grave,
and her womb forever enlarged.

and to end my days in shame?
