Hananiah’s False Prophecy
In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, near the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people: Jer 27:1Jos 9:3Isa 9:15Jer 23:28Jer 27:12Jer 27:3Jer 28:11Jer 36:12 “This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. Ezk 13:5-16Jer 27:2-12Mic 3:11 Within two years I will restore to this place all the articles of the house of the LORD that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed from here and carried to Babylon. 2Ki 24:132Ch 36:10Dan 1:2Gen 47:28Gen 47:9Jer 27:16-22Psa 90:10 And I will restore to this place Jeconiah 1son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with all the exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’” Jer 22:242Ki 25:27-30Jer 24:1Jer 28:2Gen 27:40Isa 9:4Jer 2:20Jer 22:10
Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD. Jer 28:1Jer 19:14Jer 26:2Jer 7:2 “Amen!” Jeremiah said. “May the LORD do so! May the LORD fulfill the words you have prophesied, and may He restore the articles of His house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon. 1Ki 1:36Psa 41:13Jer 11:51Ch 16:361Co 14:162Co 1:20Deu 27:15-26Jer 17:16
Nevertheless, listen now to this message I am speaking in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people. 1Ki 22:28 The prophets of old who preceded you and me prophesied war, disaster, and plague against many lands and great kingdoms. 1Ki 17:11Ki 22:8Deu 4:26-271Ki 14:7-151Ki 21:18-241Sa 2:27-321Sa 3:11-14Amo 1:2 As for the prophet who prophesies peace, only if the word of the prophet comes true will the prophet be recognized as one the LORD has truly sent.” Deu 18:22Jer 6:14Ezk 13:10-16Jer 14:13Jer 4:10Jer 8:11
Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it. Jer 27:21Ki 22:111Ki 22:24-25Jer 28:2Jer 28:4Jer 36:23-24Mal 3:13 And in the presence of all the people Hananiah proclaimed, “This is what the LORD says: ‘In this way, within two years I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations.’” 2Ch 18:22-23Pro 14:71Ki 22:11-12Jer 14:14Jer 27:2-12Jer 29:91Ki 13:181Ki 22:6
At this, Jeremiah the prophet went on his way. But shortly after Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke off his neck, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: Jer 1:21Ch 17:32Ki 20:4Dan 9:2Jer 29:30 “Go and tell Hananiah that this is what the LORD says: ‘You have broken a yoke of wood, but in its place you have fashioned a yoke of iron.’ Psa 149:8Jer 27:15Lam 2:14
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations to make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I have even given him control of the beasts of the field.’” Deu 28:48Jer 27:6-7Dan 2:38Deu 4:20Isa 14:4-6Jer 25:9-26Jer 27:4Jer 40:4
Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah! The LORD did not send you, but you have persuaded this people to trust in a lie. Jer 14:14-15Jer 27:15Jer 23:21Ezk 13:2-3Ezk 22:28Lam 2:14Jer 29:231Ki 22:23 Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. You will die this year because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.’” Jer 29:32Gen 7:41Ki 13:34Deu 6:15Exo 32:12Jer 20:6Act 13:8-11Amo 9:8
And in the seventh month of that very year, the prophet Hananiah died. Zec 1:6Isa 44:25-26
