Jeremiah Warns Zedekiah

Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made Zedekiah son of Josiah the king of Judah, and he reigned in place of Coniah ¹son of Jehoiakim. Yet King Zedekiah sent Jehucal ²son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet with the message, “Please pray to the LORD our God for us!” Jer 21:1-2 1Ki 13:6 Jer 2:27 Jer 29:25 Jer 42:2-4 Jer 42:20 Jer 52:24 1Sa 12:19

This is what the LORD says: Do not deceive yourselves by saying, ‘The Chaldeans will go away for good,’ for they will not! Jeremiah Imprisoned

When the Chaldean army withdrew from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army, Jer 37:5 Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there ⁴among the people. But Irijah would not listen to him; instead, he arrested Jeremiah and took him to the officials.

The officials were angry with Jeremiah, and they beat him and placed him in jail in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it had been made into a prison. Jer 38:26 2Ch 16:10 2Ch 18:26 Act 5:18 Gen 39:20 Jer 20:1-3 Jer 26:16 Mat 21:35

Later, King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah and received him in his palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there a word from the LORD?” Jer 21:7 1Ki 14:1-4 1Ki 22:16 Ezk 12:12-13 Jer 21:1-2 Jer 24:8 Jer 37:3 Jer 38:14-16

“There is,” Jeremiah replied. “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”

Then Jeremiah asked King Zedekiah, “How have I sinned against you or your servants or these people, that you have put me in prison? So King Zedekiah gave orders for Jeremiah to be placed in the courtyard of the guard and given a loaf of bread daily from the street of the bakers, until all the bread in the city was gone.
