A Lament over Zion
Oh, that my head were a spring of water, Jer 13:17Isa 22:4Jer 8:21-22Lam 2:11Jer 6:26Ezk 21:6-7Isa 16:9Jer 14:17
and my eyes a fountain of tears!
I would weep day and night
over the slain daughter of my people.
If only I had a traveler’s lodge in the wilderness, Jer 23:10Jer 5:7-8Hos 4:2Hos 7:4Jer 12:1Jer 12:6Ezk 22:10-11Hos 5:7
I would abandon my people and depart from them,
for they are all adulterers,
a crowd of faithless people.
“They bend their tongues like bows; Jer 4:22Jer 9:8Isa 59:13-15Jdg 2:101Sa 2:12Rom 3:132Co 4:4-62Ti 3:13
lies prevail over truth in the land.
For they proceed from evil to evil,
and they do not take Me into account,”
declares the LORD.
“Let everyone guard against his neighbor; Mic 7:5-6Pro 26:24-25Psa 12:2-3Jer 6:28Lev 19:16Pro 10:18Pro 25:18Mat 10:21
do not trust any brother,
for every brother deals craftily,
and every friend spreads slander.
Each one betrays his friend; Hab 2:13Isa 57:10Isa 59:13-15Job 15:5Mic 6:121Ti 4:2Eph 4:25Ezk 24:12
no one tells the truth.
They have taught their tongues to lie;
they wear themselves out committing iniquity.
You dwell 1in the midst of deception; Hos 4:6Jer 13:10Jer 11:19Jer 20:10Jer 5:27Jer 8:5Jhn 3:19-20Job 21:14-15
in their deceit they refuse to know Me,”
declares the LORD.
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts says: Isa 1:25Isa 48:10Jer 6:27Mal 3:3Zec 13:91Pe 1:71Pe 4:12Hos 11:8-9
“Behold, I will refine them and test them,
for what else can I do
because of 2the daughter of My people?
Their tongues are deadly arrows; Psa 28:3Pro 26:24-26Psa 120:32Sa 20:9-102Sa 3:27Jer 9:3Psa 12:2Psa 55:21
they speak deception.
With his mouth a man speaks peace to his neighbor,
but in his heart he sets a trap for him.
Should I not punish them for these things? Jer 5:29Jer 5:9Isa 1:24
declares the LORD.
Should I not avenge Myself
on such a nation as this?”
I will take up a weeping and wailing for the mountains, Jer 12:4Hos 4:3Ezk 14:15Ezk 29:11Ezk 33:28Jer 12:10Jer 7:29Isa 49:19
a dirge over the wilderness pasture,
for they have been scorched so no one passes through,
and the lowing of cattle is not heard.
Both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled;
they have gone away.
“And I will make Jerusalem a heap of rubble, Isa 25:2Isa 13:22Isa 34:13Jer 10:22Jer 51:37Jer 25:11Jer 26:18Jer 34:22
a haunt for jackals; 3
and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation,
without inhabitant.”
Who is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the LORD spoken, that he may explain it? Why is the land destroyed and scorched like a desert, so no one can pass through it? Hos 14:9Psa 107:43Deu 32:29Psa 107:341Ki 9:8-9Deu 29:22-28Ezk 14:23Ezk 22:25-31
And the LORD answered, “It is because they have forsaken My law, which I set before them; they have not walked in it or obeyed My voice. 2Ch 7:19Jer 22:9Ezr 9:10Deu 31:16-17Pro 28:4Psa 119:53Psa 89:30-32Zep 3:1-6 Instead, they have followed the stubbornness of their hearts and gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them.” Jer 3:17Jer 7:241Pe 1:18Eph 2:3Gal 1:14Rom 1:21-24Eph 4:17-19Gen 6:5
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will feed this people wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink. Jer 8:14Lam 3:15Psa 80:5Jer 23:15Deu 29:18Isa 2:17Isa 2:22Jer 25:15 I will scatter them among the nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send a sword after them until I have finished them off.” Deu 28:64Ezk 5:12Ezk 5:2Lev 26:33Jer 44:27Jer 13:24Deu 28:25Deu 28:36
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Amo 5:16-17Ecc 12:52Ch 35:25Job 3:8Mat 9:23Mrk 5:38
“Take note, and summon the wailing women;
send for the most skillful among them.
Let them come quickly Jer 9:1Isa 22:4Jer 14:17Jer 9:20Jer 13:17Jer 6:26Jer 9:10Lam 1:2
and take up a lament over us,
that our eyes may overflow with tears,
and our eyelids may gush with water.
For the sound of wailing Jer 4:13Deu 28:29Ezk 7:16-18Jer 2:14Jer 4:20Jer 4:30-31Lam 4:15Lam 5:2
is heard from Zion:
‘How devastated we are!
How great is our shame!
For we have abandoned the land
because our dwellings have been torn down.’”
Now, O women, hear the word of the LORD. Luk 23:27-30Isa 32:9-13Job 22:22Isa 3:16Jer 9:17-18Isa 3:4
Open your ears to the word of His mouth.
Teach your daughters to wail,
and one another to lament.
For death has climbed in through our windows; Jer 6:112Ch 36:17Ezk 9:5-6Jer 15:7Amo 6:10-11Ezk 21:14-15
it has entered our fortresses
to cut off the children from the streets,
the young men from the town squares.
Declare that this is what the LORD says: Jer 8:2Jer 25:33Isa 5:25Jer 16:4Psa 83:10Zep 1:172Ki 9:37Jer 7:33
“The corpses of men will fall like dung
upon the open field,
like newly cut grain behind the reaper,
with no one to gather it.”
