The Circumcision and Passover at Gilgal

Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast 1heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, 2 their hearts melted and their spirits failed for fear of the Israelites. Jos 2:9-11Num 13:291Ki 10:51Sa 25:372Sa 21:2Amo 2:9Dan 5:6Exo 15:14-15

At that time the LORD said to Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise the sons of Israel once again. 3 Deu 10:16Deu 30:6Exo 4:25Col 2:11Gen 17:10-14Rom 4:11Rom 2:29 So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the sons of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth. 4 Gen 17:23-27Mat 16:24

Now this is why Joshua circumcised them: All those who came out of Egypt—all the men of war—had died on the journey in the wilderness after they had left Egypt. 1Co 10:5Deu 2:16Num 26:64-65Deu 2:14Heb 3:17-19Num 14:22 Though all who had come out were circumcised, none of those born in the wilderness on the journey from Egypt had been circumcised. 1Co 7:19Deu 12:8-9Gal 5:6Gal 6:15Hos 6:6-7Mat 12:7Rom 2:26

For the Israelites had wandered in the wilderness forty years, until all the nation’s men of war who had come out of Egypt had died, since they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD vowed never to let them see the land He had sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. Num 14:23Deu 2:14Heb 3:11Deu 1:3Deu 2:7Exo 3:8Num 14:29-35Psa 95:10-11 And Joshua raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones he circumcised. Until this time they were still uncircumcised, since they had not been circumcised along the way. Deu 1:39Num 14:31

And after all the nation had been circumcised, they stayed there in the camp until they were healed. Gen 34:25

Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So that place has been called Gilgal 5to this day. 1Sa 17:26Jos 4:19Gen 34:14Jer 9:25Jos 24:14Lev 24:141Sa 14:61Sa 17:36

On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while the Israelites were camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they kept the Passover. Exo 12:6Num 9:1-5Ezk 12:3Ezk 12:6-16 The day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate unleavened bread and roasted grain from the produce of the land. Lev 23:14Exo 12:18-20Exo 13:6-7Lev 23:6

And the day after they had eaten from the produce of the land, the manna ceased. There was no more manna for the Israelites, so that year they began to eat the crops of the land of Canaan. Exo 16:35Deu 6:10-11Isa 65:13-14Neh 9:20-21Pro 13:22Rev 7:16-17Jhn 4:38

The Commander of the LORD’s Army

Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?” Gen 18:2Num 22:23Num 22:311Ch 21:16-171Ch 21:30Dan 10:5Exo 23:23Hos 12:3-5

“Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as Commander of the LORD’s army.” Isa 55:4Gen 17:3Exo 23:20-22Rev 19:10-14Act 10:25-26Dan 10:13Dan 12:1Luk 20:42

Then Joshua fell facedown in reverence 6and asked Him, “What does my Lord have to say to His servant?”

The Commander of the LORD’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” Exo 3:5Act 7:32-332Pe 1:18

And Joshua did so.
