A Greeting from Jude

(James 1:1)

God’s Judgment on the Ungodly

(2 Peter 3:1–7)

Beloved, although I made every effort to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt it necessary to write and urge you to contend earnestly for the faith entrusted once for all to the saints. 1Ti 6:12Php 1:27Jud 1:202Ti 1:13Tit 1:42Ti 4:7-8Rev 12:11Rev 2:10 For certain men have crept in among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. 2Pe 2:1-3Gal 2:42Pe 2:10Tit 1:15-161Pe 2:161Jn 2:222Pe 2:18-221Pe 2:8

Although you are fully aware of this, I want to remind you that after Jesus 1had delivered His people out of the land of Egypt, He destroyed those who did not believe. Heb 3:16Num 26:64-651Co 10:1-12Psa 106:26Num 14:22-37Deu 2:15-162Pe 1:12-132Pe 3:1 And the angels who did not stay within their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling—these He has kept in eternal chains under darkness, bound for judgment on that great day. 2Pe 2:4Mat 25:41Eph 6:12Mat 8:292Pe 2:9Heb 10:27Rev 20:10Jhn 8:44 In like manner, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, who indulged in sexual immorality and pursued strange flesh, are on display as an example of those who sustain the punishment of eternal fire. Deu 29:232Pe 2:6Rom 1:26-27Gen 18:20Gen 19:24-26Gen 13:131Co 6:9Jer 50:40

Yet in the same way these dreamers defile their bodies, reject authority, and slander glorious beings. Heb 13:172Pe 2:10-121Pe 2:171Ti 1:10Exo 22:281Co 3:17Ecc 10:20Jud 1:9-10 But even the archangel Michael, when he disputed with the devil over the body of Moses, did not presume to bring a slanderous charge against him, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” 2 Zec 3:22Pe 2:11Deu 34:6Dan 12:1Rev 12:7Dan 10:21Dan 10:131Th 4:16 These men, however, slander what they do not understand, and like irrational animals, they will be destroyed by the things they do instinctively. 2Pe 2:12Rom 1:21-22 Woe to them! They have traveled the path of Cain; they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam; they have perished in Korah’s rebellion. 2Pe 2:151Jn 3:12Rev 2:14Gen 4:3-14Heb 11:4Num 16:1-35Num 26:9-10Deu 23:4

These men are hidden reefs 3in your love feasts, shamelessly feasting with you but shepherding only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried along by the wind; fruitless trees in autumn, twice dead after being uprooted. 2Pe 2:17-20Mat 15:13Ezk 34:8Eph 4:14Php 3:19Pro 25:141Co 11:20-222Pe 2:13-14 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. 2Pe 2:17Php 3:19Isa 57:20Psa 65:72Ti 3:13Rev 14:10-11Rev 20:10Jer 5:22-23

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about them: Deu 33:2Psa 50:3-52Th 1:7-8Heb 11:5-61Th 3:13Mat 16:27Mat 24:30-31Mat 25:31

“Behold, the Lord is coming

with myriads of His holy ones

to execute judgment on everyone, 1Co 4:51Ti 1:9Ecc 11:9Rev 22:12-15Rom 14:101Sa 2:3Act 17:31Exo 16:8

and to convict all the ungodly

of every ungodly act of wickedness

and every harsh word spoken against Him by ungodly sinners.” 4

These men are discontented grumblers, following after their own lusts; their mouths spew arrogance; they flatter others for their own advantage. 2Pe 2:18Php 2:142Pe 2:101Ti 6:51Co 10:101Pe 2:111Pe 4:22Pe 3:3

A Call to Persevere

(Hebrews 10:19–39; 2 Peter 3:1–7)

But you, beloved, remember what was foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ 2Pe 3:21Jn 4:6Eph 4:11Act 20:35Mal 4:4Eph 2:20 when they said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow after their own ungodly desires.” 5 2Pe 3:32Ti 4:32Ti 3:1-52Ti 3:131Ti 4:1-22Pe 2:1Act 20:29Jud 1:16 These are the ones who cause divisions, who are worldly and devoid of the Spirit. 1Co 2:14Pro 18:1Rom 8:9Jas 3:15Heb 10:25Hos 9:10Jhn 3:5-6Ezk 14:7

But you, beloved, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, Eph 6:18Rom 8:26-271Co 14:15Col 2:71Th 5:111Co 14:4-5Rom 8:151Co 14:26 keep yourselves in the love of God as you await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life. 1Jn 4:16Heb 9:28Lam 3:25-262Pe 3:12Jhn 15:9-102Th 3:5Rev 12:11Jhn 14:21

And indeed, have mercy on those who doubt; Jas 5:19-20Gal 6:11Jn 5:16-18Heb 6:4-8Jud 1:4-13Ezk 34:17Gal 4:20 save others by snatching them from the fire; and to still others show mercy tempered with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh. 1Ti 4:161Co 15:33Rev 3:42Co 7:10-122Th 3:14Rom 11:14Zec 3:2-5Rev 3:18
