Micah’s Idolatry
Now a man named Micah from the hill country of Ephraim Jdg 10:1Jdg 18:2Jos 15:9Jos 17:14-18 said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekels of silver 1that were taken from you and about which I heard you utter a curse—I have the silver here with me; I took it.” Neh 13:25Rut 3:101Sa 23:212Jn 1:11Mat 26:741Co 16:221Sa 14:241Sa 14:28
Then his mother said, “Blessed be my son by the LORD!”
And when he had returned the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, she said, “I wholly dedicate the silver to the LORD for my son’s benefit, to make a graven image and a molten idol. Therefore I will now return it to you.” Exo 20:4Lev 19:4Exo 20:23Deu 12:3Exo 34:17Hab 2:18-19Isa 40:18-25Isa 44:9-20
So he returned the silver to his mother, and she took two hundred shekels of silver 2and gave them to a silversmith, who made them into a graven image and a molten idol. And they were placed in the house of Micah. Isa 46:6-7Jer 10:9-10
Now this man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and some household idols, and ordained 3one of his sons as his priest. And there was a young Levite from Bethlehem in Judah who had been residing within the clan of Judah. Mat 2:1Mic 5:2Rut 1:1-2Mat 2:5-6Gen 35:19Jdg 19:1-2Jos 19:15 This man left the city of Bethlehem in Judah to settle where he could find a place. And as he traveled, he came to Micah’s house in the hill country of Ephraim. Jos 24:33Jdg 17:11Neh 13:10-11
“Where are you from?” Micah asked him.
“I am a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah,” he replied, “and I am on my way to settle wherever I can find a place.”
“Stay with me,” Micah said to him, “and be my father and priest, and I will give you ten shekels of silver 4per year, a suit of clothes, and your provisions.” 1Pe 5:2Jhn 12:61Sa 2:361Ti 6:102Ki 13:142Ki 6:212Ki 8:8-9Ezk 13:19
