full of lies,
full of plunder,
never without prey.
The crack of the whip, Jer 47:3Nam 2:3-4Jdg 5:22Job 39:22-25Isa 9:5
the rumble of the wheel,
galloping horse
and bounding chariot!
Charging horseman, Ezk 39:4Hab 3:11Isa 34:3Isa 37:36Gen 3:242Ki 19:35Ezk 31:3-13Nam 2:4
flashing sword,
shining spear;
heaps of slain,
mounds of corpses,
dead bodies without end—
they stumble over their dead—

the seductive mistress of sorcery,
who betrays nations by her prostitution

declares the LORD of Hosts.
“I will lift your skirts over your face.
I will show your nakedness to the nations
and your shame to the kingdoms.
I will pelt you with filth Mal 2:9Jer 51:37Job 9:31Psa 38:5-71Co 4:9Heb 10:33Job 30:8Nam 1:14

Then all who see you Isa 51:19Jer 15:5Rev 18:10Jer 51:9Lam 2:13Num 16:34Nam 1:1Nam 2:9-10
will recoil from you and say,
‘Nineveh is devastated;
who will grieve for her?’
Where can I find
comforters for you?”
Are you better than Thebes, 1 Amo 6:2Ezk 30:14-16Ezk 31:2-3Isa 19:5-10Jer 46:25-26
stationed by the Nile with water around her,
whose rampart was the sea,
whose wall was the water?

Yet she became an exile; Isa 20:4Hos 13:16Jol 3:3Oba 1:11Isa 13:16Lam 2:192Ki 8:12Amo 1:13
she went into captivity.
Her infants were dashed to pieces
at the head of every street.
They cast lots for her dignitaries,
and all her nobles were bound in chains.
You too will become drunk; Isa 2:10Isa 49:26Luk 23:30Hos 10:8Isa 2:19Jer 4:5Nam 1:10Psa 75:8
you will go into hiding
and seek refuge from the enemy.
All your fortresses are fig trees Rev 6:13Hab 1:10Isa 28:4
with the first ripe figs;
when shaken, they fall
into the mouth of the eater!
Look at your troops— Jer 51:30Isa 19:16Jer 50:37Nam 2:6Isa 45:1-2Psa 107:16Psa 147:13
they are like your women!
The gates of your land
are wide open to your enemies;
fire consumes their bars.
Draw your water for the siege; 2Ch 32:3-4Nam 2:1Jer 46:3-42Ch 32:11Isa 22:9-11Isa 37:25Isa 8:9Jer 46:9

and consume you like a young locust.
Make yourself many like the young locust;
make yourself many like the swarming locust!
You have multiplied your merchants Gen 15:5Gen 22:17Jer 33:22Neh 9:23
more than the stars of the sky.
The young locust strips the land
and flies away.
Your guards 3are like the swarming locust, Jer 51:27Rev 9:7
and your scribes 4like clouds of locusts
that settle on the walls on a cold day.
When the sun rises, they fly away,
and no one knows where.
O king of Assyria, your shepherds slumber; 1Ki 22:17Psa 76:5-6Isa 13:14Jer 50:18Jer 51:57Exo 15:16Ezk 31:3-18Ezk 32:22-23

Your people are scattered on the mountains
with no one to gather them.

applaud your downfall,
for who has not experienced
your constant cruelty?
