The Daughters of Zelophehad
(Numbers 36:1–13)
Now the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. These were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They approached Num 26:33Gal 3:281Ch 7:15Num 36:1-12Jos 17:3-6 the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the whole congregation, and said, Deu 17:8-10Exo 18:13-14Exo 18:19-26Num 15:33-34 “Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among the followers of Korah who gathered together against the LORD. Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons. Num 26:64-65Ezk 18:4Num 14:35Jhn 8:21Jhn 8:24Num 16:1-3Num 16:19Num 16:32-35 Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan because he had no sons? Give us property among our father’s brothers.” Jos 17:4Exo 32:11Psa 109:13Pro 13:9
So Moses brought their case before the LORD, Lev 24:12-13Exo 25:22Job 23:4Num 9:8Pro 3:5-6Exo 18:15-19Num 15:34 and the LORD answered him, Gal 3:28Psa 68:5-6 “The daughters of Zelophehad speak correctly. You certainly must give them property as an inheritance among their father’s brothers, and transfer their father’s inheritance to them. Jer 49:11Gal 3:28Jos 17:4Num 36:1-2Psa 68:5
Furthermore, you shall say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, you are to transfer his inheritance to his daughter. If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. And if his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the next of kin from his clan, that he may take possession of it. This is to be a statutory ordinance for the Israelites, as the LORD has commanded Moses.’” Num 35:29Jer 32:8Rut 4:3-61Sa 30:25Lev 25:25Lev 25:49
