Boaz Meets Ruth
Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, a prominent man of noble character from the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. Rut 4:21Rut 3:12Rut 3:2Mat 1:51Ch 2:10-12Deu 8:17-18Rut 1:2Jdg 12:8-10
And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go into the fields and glean heads of grain after someone in whose sight I may find favor.” Lev 23:22Lev 19:9Deu 24:19-21Lev 19:16Rut 2:7
“Go ahead, my daughter,” Naomi replied.
So Ruth departed and went out into the field and gleaned after the harvesters. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelech. 2Th 3:121Th 4:11-12Luk 10:31Mat 10:292Ki 8:5Est 6:1-2
Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and said to the harvesters, “The LORD be with you.” Psa 129:7-8Jdg 6:12Luk 1:282Th 3:162Ti 4:22Psa 118:26Gen 18:19Jos 24:15
“The LORD bless you,” they replied.
And Boaz asked the foreman of his harvesters, “Whose young woman is this?” 1Ch 2:11-12Rut 4:21
The foreman answered, “She is the Moabitess who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab. Rut 1:22Mat 24:45Gen 24:2Gen 39:4Mat 20:8Rut 1:16Rut 1:19Gen 15:2 She has said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the harvesters.’ So she came out and has continued from morning until now, except that she rested a short time in the shelter.” Pro 15:331Pe 5:5-6Eph 5:21Pro 13:4Pro 18:23Pro 22:29Ecc 9:10Gal 6:9
Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Do not go and glean in another field, and do not go away from this place, but stay here close to my servant girls. 2Ki 5:13Sng 1:7-81Sa 3:161Sa 3:6Mat 10:7-11Mat 9:2Mat 9:22Php 4:8 Let your eyes be on the field they are harvesting, and follow along after these girls. Indeed, I have ordered the young men not to touch you. And when you are thirsty, go and drink from the jars the young men have filled.” 1Jn 5:18Gen 20:61Co 7:1Mat 10:42Pro 6:29Psa 105:15Gen 24:18-20Jhn 4:7-11
At this, she fell on her face, bowing low to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you should take notice of me, even though I am a foreigner?” 1Sa 25:23Rut 2:132Sa 19:28Luk 1:43Luk 1:48Luk 17:16-18Rom 12:102Sa 9:8
Boaz replied, “I have been made fully aware of all you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and how you came to a people you did not know before. Luk 14:33Luk 18:29-30Luk 5:11Psa 37:5-6Psa 45:10Rut 1:14-22Heb 11:24-26Heb 11:8-9 May the LORD repay your work, and may you receive a rich reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have taken refuge.” Psa 36:7Psa 91:4Psa 63:7Psa 17:8Psa 61:4Heb 6:10Psa 57:1Rut 1:16
“My lord,” she said, “may I continue to find favor in your eyes, for you have comforted and spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your servant girls.” 1Sa 1:18Gen 33:8Gen 34:3Php 2:31Sa 25:412Sa 16:4Gen 33:10Gen 33:15
At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here; have some bread and dip it into the vinegar sauce.” So she sat down beside the harvesters, and he offered her roasted grain, and she ate and was satisfied and had some left over. Rut 2:182Ki 4:43-44Deu 8:10Luk 14:12-14Mat 14:201Sa 17:171Sa 25:182Sa 17:28
When Ruth got up to glean, Boaz ordered his young men, “Even if she gathers among the sheaves, do not insult her. Jas 1:5 Rather, pull out for her some stalks from the bundles and leave them for her to gather. Do not rebuke her.” 1Jn 3:17-18Deu 24:19-21Rom 12:13Heb 6:10Mat 25:40Phm 1:7Pro 19:17Psa 112:9
So Ruth gathered grain in the field until evening. And when she beat out what she had gleaned, it was about an ephah of barley. 1 Pro 31:27Ezk 45:11-12Exo 16:36 She picked up the grain and went into the town, where her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. And she brought out what she had saved from her meal and gave it to Naomi. Rut 2:141Ti 5:4Jhn 6:12-13
Then her mother-in-law asked her, “Where did you glean today, and where did you work? Blessed be the man who noticed you.” Psa 41:1Rut 2:101Ki 7:212Co 9:13-15
So she told her mother-in-law where she had worked. “The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz,” she said.
Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by the LORD, who has not withdrawn His kindness from the living or the dead.” Naomi continued, “The man is a close relative. He is one of our kinsman-redeemers. 2” 2Sa 2:5Rut 3:9-10Deu 25:5-7Lev 25:25Job 29:12-13Php 4:10Pro 17:17Rut 4:14
Then Ruth the Moabitess said, “He also told me, ‘Stay with my young men until they have finished gathering all my harvest.’” Sng 1:7-8Rut 2:22Rut 2:7-8
And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law Ruth, “My daughter, it is good for you to work with his young women, so that nothing will happen to you in another field.” Sng 1:8Pro 27:10
So Ruth stayed close to the servant girls of Boaz to glean grain until the barley and wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law. Eph 6:1-31Co 15:33Deu 16:9Pro 13:1Pro 13:20Pro 6:6-8
