Shem’s son and Noah’s grandson (Genesis 10:22–23; 1 Chronicles 1:17). The ancestor of the Arameans. See Syria, Syrians.

The Aram used in the list of the ancestors of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:3–4, King James Version) is a mistranslation of the Greek word Aram which means “Ram." It is an entirely different name (Ruth 4:19). See Ram (Person) #1.
