Codex Ephraemi Syri Rescriptus

Codex Ephraemi Syri Rescriptus is a Greek biblical manuscript of the fifth century AD, one of the major early codices, designated C in critical editions of the New Testament. It originally contained the whole Bible, but only portions survive: about two-thirds of the New Testament and a smaller part of the Old Testament. In the twelfth century the biblical text was scraped away and the parchment reused for the Greek translation of the writings of Ephrem the Syrian. A manuscript reused in this way is called a palimpsest; the earlier text can still be read beneath the later one. The manuscript is now in Paris.
