En-gannim

En-gannim was a village in the lowland of Judah near Beth-shemesh (Joshua 15:34). Some scholars identify it with the modern Beit Jemal, but this is unlikely.

En-gannim was also the name of a town on the border of Issachar (Joshua 19:21). It was a Levitical city of the Gershonites (Joshua 21:29). It is called Anem in 1 Chronicles 6:73. The different spelling may have come from a copyist’s mistake.

This town may be the same place that Josephus, an ancient Jewish historian, called Ginaea in Antiquities 20.6.1.Its site is probably modern Jenin. Jenin is a town on the southern edge of the plain of Esdraelon. It is 8 kilometers (5 miles) northeast of Dothan and about 109 kilometers (68 miles) north of Jerusalem.
