Hadad-rimmon

Hadad-rimmon was the name of two storm gods joined together: Hadad and Rimmon. Hadad is mentioned in the Ugaritic texts, ancient writings from the city of Ugarit. Rimmon was a Babylonian storm god. In the past, some scholars thought Hadad-rimmon was a place.

The Ras Shamra texts, ancient writings found at Ugarit, connect Hadad with Baal, a god linked with plants and crops. People worshiped Baal because they believed he could help their crops grow. In Canaanite fertility rituals, the goddess Anat (Baal's consort) mourned for Baal after his death. Zechariah 12:11 alludes to that ritual. In Zechariah 12:10, the grief in Jerusalem is compared to the mourning for Hadad-rimmon near Megiddo.
