Heman

A son of Mahol. He was a descendant of Zerah from the tribe of Judah. He was also a sage. King Solomon surpassed his wisdom (1 Kings 4:31; 1 Chronicles 2:6). He might be "the Ezrahite" and author of Psalm 88.

A Kohathite from the tribe of Levi, and a son of Joel. King David appointed him as a musical leader with Asaph and Ethan (also called Jeduthun). They served in the sanctuary (1 Chronicles 6:33; 15:17; 16:41). David transported the ark of the covenant from the house of Obed-edom to Jerusalem. He gave Heman the duty of sounding the bronze cymbals (1 Chronicles 15:19; 2 Chronicles 5:12). Heman fathered 14 sons and 3 daughters. They all served as musicians in the temple of the Lord (1 Chronicles 25:1–6). Later, his descendants participated in the cleansing of the temple. This was during the rule of King Hezekiah (715–686 BC; 2 Chronicles 29:14). He assisted with the Passover celebration initiated by King Josiah (640–609 BC; 2 Chronicles 35:15).
