Jachin and Boaz are the names of two pillars Solomon set up before the temple entrance. He named the south pillar Jachin and the north pillar Boaz (1 Kings 7:21; 2 Chronicles 3:17).
These hollow pillars were cast in bronze. They were about 8.2 meters (27 feet) tall and five and a half meters (18 feet) around, or nearly 1.8 meters (six feet) across. They were crowned with an elaborate cap, about seven and a half feet high. It had cast lily work, chains, and 200 pomegranates each (1 Kings 7:15–20; 2 Chronicles 3:15–16; 4:13).
