Modius

A modius was a Roman measure used for grain and other dry goods. It held about 8.5 liters, or 7.68 dry quarts. This was about the same as one peck.

Some older Bible translations call it a “bushel.” Jesus referred to this container when he said that people do not light a lamp and then hide it under a basket (Matthew 5:15; Mark 4:21; Luke 11:33).
