Parchment

Parchment is a writing material made from prepared animal skin, often the skin of sheep. People in the ancient world used it for letters, books, and other written records.

Pergamum was well known for producing this material. Parchment became very popular, and its name comes from the Latin word pergamena, which is connected to the name Pergamum.
