நாம் தேவனிடத்தில் அன்புகூர்ந்ததினால் அல்ல, அவர் நம்மிடத்தில் அன்புகூர்ந்து, நம்முடைய பாவங்களை நிவர்த்தி செய்கிற பாவநிவாரணபலியாகத் தம்முடைய குமாரனை அனுப்பினதினாலே அன்பு உண்டாயிருக்கிறது.

And love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
