இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் வாதாடினதற்காகவும், “யெகோவா எங்களுடைய நடுவில் இருக்கிறாரா இல்லையா” என்று அவர்கள் யெகோவாவை சோதித்துப் பார்த்ததினாலும், அவன் அந்த இடத்திற்கு மாசா என்றும், மேரிபா என்றும் பெயரிட்டான்.

He named the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
