அப்பொழுது லாபான் யாக்கோபுக்குப் மறுமொழியாக: “இந்த மகள்கள் என் மகள்கள், இந்தப் பிள்ளைகள் என் பிள்ளைகள், இந்த மந்தை என் மந்தை; நீ காண்கிற அனைத்தும் என்னுடையவைகள்; என் மகள்களாகிய இவர்களையும், இவர்கள் பெற்ற பிள்ளைகளையும் இன்று நான் என்ன செய்யமுடியும்?

But Laban answered Jacob, “These daughters are my daughters, these sons are my sons, and these flocks are my flocks! Everything you see is mine! Yet what can I do today about these daughters of mine or the children they have borne?
