மாயக்காரர்களாகிய வேதபண்டிதர்களே! பரிசேயர்களே! உங்களுக்கு ஐயோ, நீங்கள் புதினாவிலும் வெந்தயத்திலும் சீரகத்திலும் தசமபாகம் செலுத்தி, நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தில் கற்பித்திருக்கிற விசேஷித்தவைகளாகிய நீதியையும் இரக்கத்தையும் விசுவாசத்தையும் விட்டுவிட்டீர்கள், இவைகளையும் செய்யவேண்டும், அவைகளையும் விடாமலிருக்கவேண்டுமே.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay tithes of mint, dill, and cumin. But you have disregarded the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
