Then Samuel took a flask of oil, poured it on Saul’s head, kissed him, and said, “Has not the LORD anointed you ruler over His inheritance? 1 1Sa 16:13Psa 78:711Sa 9:16Psa 2:12Act 13:211Sa 26:112Ki 9:3-6Deu 32:9 When you leave me today, you will find two men at Rachel’s tomb in Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. Then you will go on from there until you come to the Oak 2of Tabor. Three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine. After that you will come to Gibeah of God, 3 where the Philistines have an outpost. As you approach the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, preceded by harps, tambourines, flutes, and lyres, and they will be prophesying. 2Ki 3:151Sa 13:31Sa 19:201Ch 25:1-61Sa 10:102Ki 2:152Ki 2:32Ki 2:5

Samuel’s Signs Fulfilled
As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s heart, and all the signs came to pass that day. Jdg 7:11Isa 38:7-81Sa 10:2-6Jdg 6:21Jdg 6:36-40Mrk 14:16 When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, 4 a group of prophets met him. Then the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied along with them. 1Sa 10:5-61Sa 19:20-24
All those who had formerly known Saul and saw him prophesying with the prophets asked one another, “What has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?” 1Sa 19:24Jhn 7:15Mat 13:54-55Act 2:7-8Act 3:10Act 4:13Act 9:21Jhn 9:8-9
Then a man who lived there replied, “And who is their father?” So the saying became a proverb: “Is Saul also among the prophets?” Isa 54:13Jhn 6:45Jas 1:17Jhn 7:16
And when Saul had finished prophesying, he went up to the high place.
Now Saul’s uncle asked him and his servant, “Where did you go?” 1Sa 14:501Sa 9:3-102Ki 5:25
“To look for the donkeys,” Saul replied. “When we saw they were not to be found, we went to Samuel.”
“Tell me,” Saul’s uncle asked, “what did Samuel say to you?”
And Saul replied, “He assured us that the donkeys had been found.” But Saul did not tell his uncle what Samuel had said about the kingship. Pro 29:111Sa 9:201Sa 9:27Jdg 14:6Exo 4:18
Saul Proclaimed King
After this, Samuel summoned the people to the LORD at Mizpah Jdg 20:11Sa 7:5-6 and said to the Israelites, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I rescued you from the hands of the Egyptians and of all the kingdoms that oppressed you.’ Jdg 6:8-9Jdg 2:1Neh 9:27-28Neh 9:9-12
But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and afflictions, and you have said to Him, ‘No, set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and clans.” 1Sa 12:121Sa 8:19Jos 24:11Sa 12:17-191Sa 8:6-9Jos 7:14-26Mic 5:2Num 17:2
Thus Samuel had all the tribes of Israel come forward, and the tribe of Benjamin was selected. 1Sa 14:41Act 1:24-26Jos 7:16-18 Then he had the tribe of Benjamin come forward by its clans, and the clan of Matri was selected. 5 Finally, Saul son of Kish was selected. But when they looked for him, they could not find him. So again they inquired of the LORD, “Has the man come here yet?” Jdg 20:18Num 27:211Sa 15:171Sa 23:11-121Sa 23:2-41Sa 9:21Jdg 1:1Jdg 20:23
And the LORD replied, “Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.”
So they ran and brought Saul, and when he stood among the people, he was a head taller than any of the others. 1Sa 9:21Sa 16:71Sa 17:4 Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see the one the LORD has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people.” 1Ki 1:251Ki 1:392Sa 21:6Deu 17:152Ki 11:121Ki 1:211Ki 1:34Mat 21:9
And all the people shouted, “Long live the king!”
Then Samuel explained to the people the rights of kingship. He wrote them on a scroll and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, each to his own home. 1Sa 8:11-18Deu 17:14-201Pe 2:13-141Ti 2:2Ezk 45:9-10Ezk 46:16-18Rom 13:1-7Tit 3:1
