The LORD Calls Samuel

And the boy Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. Amo 8:11-12Psa 74:91Sa 3:211Sa 2:111Sa 2:181Sa 3:15Isa 13:12

Now in those days the word of the LORD was rare and visions were scarce. And at that time Eli, whose eyesight had grown so dim that he could not see, was lying in his room. 1Sa 4:15Gen 27:1Gen 48:10Psa 90:10Gen 48:191Sa 2:22Ecc 12:3

Before the lamp of God had gone out, Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was located. Lev 24:2-4Psa 27:4Exo 27:20-21Psa 5:7Psa 29:91Sa 1:62Ch 13:11Exo 30:7-8

Then the LORD called to Samuel, and he answered, “Here I am.” 1Co 12:6-11Exo 3:4Gen 22:1Isa 6:8Psa 99:6Gal 1:15-161Co 12:28Act 9:4

He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.”

“I did not call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.”

So he went and lay down.

Once again the LORD called, “Samuel!” 1Sa 4:162Sa 18:22Gen 43:29Mat 9:2

So Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.”

“My son, I did not call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.”

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. Act 19:2Jer 9:24 Once again, for the third time, the LORD called to Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” Job 33:14-151Co 13:11-12

Then Eli realized that it was the LORD who was calling the boy. “Go and lie down,” he said to Samuel, “and if He calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.’” Exo 20:19Isa 6:8Psa 85:8Act 9:6Dan 10:19

So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Then the LORD came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” 1Sa 3:81Sa 3:4-6

And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”

Then the LORD said to Samuel, “I am about to do something in Israel at which the ears of all who hear it will tingle. Hab 1:52Ki 21:12Act 13:41Jer 19:3Amo 3:6-7Luk 21:26Isa 28:19Isa 29:14 On that day I will carry out against Eli everything I have spoken about his family, from beginning to end. 1Sa 2:27-36Jos 23:15Luk 21:33Num 23:19Zec 1:6 I told him that I would judge his house forever for the iniquity of which he knows, because his sons blasphemed God 1and he did not restrain them. Samuel Shares the Vision

Samuel lay down until the morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision, Jer 1:6-81Co 16:10-111Sa 1:9Mal 1:10 but Eli called to him and said, “Samuel, my son.”

“Here I am,” answered Samuel.

“What was the message He gave you?” Eli asked. “Do not hide it from me. May God punish you, and ever so severely, if you hide from me anything He said to you.” 2Sa 3:35Rut 1:171Ki 22:161Sa 20:132Sa 19:13Dan 4:19Mat 26:63Mic 2:7

So Samuel told him everything and did not hide a thing from him. Isa 39:8Job 2:101Pe 5:6Jdg 10:15Job 1:21Lam 3:39Psa 39:92Sa 16:10-12

“He is the LORD,” replied Eli. “Let Him do what is good in His eyes.”

And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and He let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. Gen 39:21Sa 9:61Ki 8:56Luk 2:521Sa 2:212Ti 4:222Co 13:11Luk 2:40

So all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD. Jdg 20:12Sa 3:101Ti 1:122Sa 17:11 And the LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, because there He revealed Himself to Samuel by His word. 1Sa 3:1Gen 12:71Sa 3:4Gen 15:11Sa 3:10Num 12:6Amo 3:7Heb 1:1
