God’s Covenant with David

(1 Chronicles 17:1–15)

After the king had settled into his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him, Pro 16:7Luk 1:74-751Ki 5:42Ch 14:61Ch 17:1-27Dan 4:29-30Jos 23:1Psa 18:1 he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” 1Ch 16:12Sa 5:112Sa 12:1Act 7:46Hag 1:4Jhn 2:171Ch 29:29Exo 26:1-14

And Nathan replied to the king, “Go and do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.” 1Ch 22:71Ki 8:17-181Ch 28:21Sa 16:72Ki 4:271Jn 2:271Sa 10:7Psa 20:4

But that night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying, 1Ch 17:3Num 12:6Amo 3:7 “Go and tell My servant David that this is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build for Me a house to dwell in? 1Ch 17:41Ch 22:7-81Ch 23:3-321Ki 5:3-41Ki 8:16-19 For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved about with a tent as My dwelling. 1Ki 8:16Exo 40:18-19Jos 18:1Exo 40:34-381Ch 17:5-62Co 6:16Act 7:44Deu 23:14 In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders 1I appointed to shepherd My people Israel, ‘Why haven’t you built Me a house of cedar?’ 1Ch 17:62Sa 5:2Lev 26:11-12Jhn 21:15-17Act 20:28Act 21:28Deu 23:14Ezk 34:15

Now then, you are to tell My servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel. 1Sa 16:11-122Sa 6:21Psa 78:70-711Ch 17:72Sa 12:71Sa 10:11Sa 9:16 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness oppress them as they did at the beginning Amo 9:151Ch 17:9Jer 24:6Isa 60:18Ezk 37:25-27Ezk 28:24Psa 89:22-23Psa 80:8 and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house for you. And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. But My loving devotion will never be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I moved out of your way. 1Sa 15:231Sa 15:28Psa 89:281Ki 11:131Sa 16:142Sa 7:14Isa 9:72Sa 7:16 Your house and kingdom will endure forever before Me, 3 and your throne will be established forever.” Luk 1:32-33Psa 89:36-372Sa 7:13Isa 9:7Dan 2:44Dan 7:14Gen 49:10Psa 45:6

So Nathan relayed to David all the words of this entire vision. 1Ch 17:151Co 15:3Act 20:20Act 20:27

David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving
