The Defeat of Og
(Numbers 21:31–35)
Then we turned and went up the road to Bashan, and Og king of Bashan and his whole army came out to meet us in battle at Edrei. Deu 1:4Deu 29:7Num 21:33-35Psa 135:10-11Psa 136:201Ki 4:19Deu 31:4Deu 4:47 But the LORD said to me, “Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, along with all his people and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.” 2Ch 20:17Num 21:23-25Num 21:34Rev 2:10Act 18:9Act 27:24Deu 2:24-37Deu 20:3
So the LORD our God also delivered Og king of Bashan and his whole army into our hands. We struck them down until no survivor was left. Num 21:35Deu 2:33-34Jos 13:12Jos 13:30
At that time we captured all sixty of his cities. There was not a single city we failed to take—the entire region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 1Ki 4:13Jos 12:4Jos 13:30-31Num 32:33-42 All these cities were fortified with high walls and gates and bars, and there were many more unwalled villages. Deu 1:28Heb 11:30Num 13:28 We devoted them to destruction, 1 as we had done to Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children of every city. Deu 2:34Deu 2:24Psa 135:10-12Deu 20:16-18Deu 3:2Jos 11:14Lev 27:28-29Num 21:2
But all the livestock and plunder of the cities we carried off for ourselves. Deu 2:35Jos 11:11-14Jos 8:27
At that time we took from the two kings of the Amorites the land across the Jordan, from the Arnon Valley as far as Mount Hermon— Jos 12:2-6Jos 13:9-12Num 32:33-42 which the Sidonians call Sirion but the Amorites call Senir— 1Ch 5:23Psa 29:6Ezk 27:5Psa 133:3Sng 4:8Deu 4:48-49Jos 11:17Psa 89:12 all the cities of the plateau, all of Gilead, and all of Bashan as far as the cities of Salecah and Edrei in the kingdom of Og. (For only Og king of Bashan had remained of the remnant of the Rephaim. His bed of iron, nine cubits long and four cubits wide, 2 is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites.) Gen 14:52Sa 12:26Jer 49:21Sa 17:42Sa 11:1Amo 1:14Amo 2:9Deu 2:11

So at that time we took possession of this land. To the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the land beyond Aroer along the Arnon Valley, and half the hill country of Gilead, along with its cities. Deu 2:36Num 32:32-382Ki 10:33Deu 4:48Jos 12:2-6Jos 13:8-28
To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og. (The entire region of Argob, the whole territory of Bashan, used to be called the land of the Rephaim.) Num 32:39-421Ch 5:23-26Jos 13:29-32 Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites. He renamed Bashan after himself, Havvoth-jair, 3 by which it is called to this day. Num 32:412Sa 10:62Sa 13:372Sa 3:3Jos 13:131Ch 2:21-23
To Machir I gave Gilead, Num 32:39-40Gen 50:23Jos 17:1-3Jos 22:7Num 26:29 and to the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the territory from Gilead to the Arnon Valley (the middle of the valley was the border) and up to the Jabbok River, the border of the Ammonites. At that time I commanded you: “The LORD your God has given you this land to possess. All your men of valor are to cross over, armed for battle, ahead of your brothers, the Israelites. Num 32:20-24Jos 4:12-13Jos 1:12-15Jos 22:1-9 But your wives, your children, and your livestock—I know that you have much livestock—may remain in the cities I have given you, until the LORD gives rest to your brothers as He has to you, and they too have taken possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving them across the Jordan. Then each of you may return to the possession I have given you.” Jos 22:4Jos 22:8
And at that time I commanded Joshua: “Your own eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings. The LORD will do the same to all the kingdoms you are about to enter. At that time I also pleaded with the LORD: 2Co 12:8-9 “O Lord GOD, You have begun to show Your greatness and power to Your servant. For what god in heaven or on earth can perform such works and mighty acts as Yours? Exo 15:11Deu 11:2Psa 71:192Sa 7:22Jer 32:18-21Psa 86:8Dan 3:29Isa 40:25 Please let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan—that pleasant hill country as well as Lebanon!” Deu 4:21-22Deu 11:11-12Exo 3:8Ezk 20:6Num 32:5
But the LORD was angry with me on account of you, and He would not listen to me. “That is enough,” the LORD said to me. “Do not speak to Me again about this matter.
