Israel at Mount Sinai

In the third month, on the same day of the month 1that the Israelites had left the land of Egypt, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai. Exo 12:6Exo 16:1Exo 12:2Lev 23:16-18Num 33:15 After they had set out from Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain. Exo 17:1Exo 3:1Exo 3:12Exo 17:8Exo 18:5Act 7:30Act 7:38Gal 4:24

Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, “This is what you are to tell the house of Jacob and explain to the sons of Israel: Exo 3:4Act 7:38Deu 5:5-31Exo 20:21Exo 24:15-18Exo 34:2 ‘You have seen for yourselves what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Deu 32:11-12Isa 63:9Isa 40:31Deu 29:2Rev 12:14Deu 4:33-36Deu 4:9Exo 7:1-14 Now if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you will be My treasured possession out of all the nations—for the whole earth is Mine. Deu 14:2Deu 7:6Deu 26:18Mal 3:17Exo 15:26Deu 10:14Psa 135:4Deu 4:20 And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to speak to the Israelites.” Rev 5:101Pe 2:91Pe 2:5Deu 7:6Rev 1:6Deu 28:9Isa 62:12Deu 26:19

So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him. Exo 4:29-301Co 15:1Exo 3:16 And all the people answered together, “We will do everything that the LORD has spoken.” Exo 24:7Exo 24:3Jos 24:24Deu 5:27-29Exo 20:19Neh 10:29Deu 26:17-19

So Moses brought their words back to the LORD.

The LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear when I speak with you, and they will always put their trust in you.” Deu 4:36Exo 19:16Exo 24:15-16Deu 4:11-12Exo 14:31Exo 20:21Mat 17:5Psa 97:2

And Moses relayed to the LORD what the people had said.

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. They must wash their clothes Heb 10:22Gen 35:2Lev 11:44-45Lev 11:251Co 6:11Lev 15:5Num 8:21Jos 3:5 and be prepared by the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. Exo 19:16Deu 33:2Exo 34:5Jhn 3:13Exo 19:18Exo 19:20Exo 3:8Hab 3:3-6

And you are to set up a boundary for the people around the mountain and tell them, ‘Be careful not to go up on the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. Heb 12:20-21Jos 3:4Deu 2:4Deu 4:9Exo 10:28Exo 19:21Exo 19:23Exo 34:12 No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows—whether man or beast, he must not live.’ 2 1Th 4:16Exo 19:16Heb 12:201Co 15:52Exo 19:19Exo 21:28-29Lev 20:15-16

Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast may they approach the mountain. 3

When Moses came down from the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes. Exo 19:10 “Be prepared for the third day,” he said to the people. “Do not draw near to a woman.” 1Co 7:51Sa 21:4-5Exo 19:11Jol 2:162Pe 3:11-12Amo 4:12Exo 19:16Mal 3:2

The LORD Visits Sinai

On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning. A thick cloud was upon the mountain, and a very loud blast of the ram’s horn went out, so that all the people in the camp trembled. Heb 12:18-19Psa 18:11-14Heb 12:21Rev 4:1Psa 77:18Rev 11:19Rev 4:5Rev 8:5 Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Deu 4:10Deu 5:5

Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke, because the LORD had descended on it in fire. And the smoke rose like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. Jdg 5:5Exo 3:2Psa 144:5Rev 15:8Gen 19:28Jer 4:24Psa 68:7-8Deu 33:2 And as the sound of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him in the thunder. Psa 81:7Exo 19:16Neh 9:13Exo 19:13Heb 12:21

The LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the summit. So Moses went up, Neh 9:13Exo 19:11Exo 19:3Exo 24:12-13Exo 24:18Exo 34:2Exo 34:4Psa 81:7 and the LORD said to him, “Go down and warn the people not to break through to see the LORD, lest many of them perish. 1Sa 6:19Exo 3:5Heb 12:28-29Ecc 5:1Exo 19:12-13Exo 3:3Exo 33:20 Even the priests who approach the LORD must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out against them.” Exo 24:51Ch 13:9-111Ch 15:131Co 11:30-322Ch 30:152Ch 30:18-192Ch 30:32Sa 6:6-8

But Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up Mount Sinai, for You solemnly warned us, ‘Put a boundary around the mountain and set it apart as holy.’” Exo 19:12Jos 3:4-5

And the LORD replied, “Go down and bring Aaron with you. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break out against them.” Heb 4:16Heb 12:18-25Heb 12:292Co 3:7-9Exo 19:12Exo 19:21-22Exo 24:1Exo 24:9

So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.
