The Seventh Day

(Exodus 16:22–30; Hebrews 4:1–11)

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished. Lev 23:3Ezk 20:12Mrk 2:27Exo 31:13-17Luk 23:56Exo 34:21Exo 35:2-3Jer 17:21-27

Man and Woman in the Garden

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD 2God made them. Gen 5:1Rev 1:8Exo 15:3Gen 1:1Gen 1:31Gen 1:4Gen 36:11Ki 18:39

Now no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field sprouted; for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. Gen 3:23Heb 6:7Job 5:10Gen 1:11-12Gen 4:12Gen 4:2Job 38:26-28Jer 14:22 But springs 3welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.

Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being. 4 Ecc 12:7Job 33:41Co 15:45Isa 64:8Act 17:251Co 15:47Job 27:3Gen 3:19

And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed. Ezk 28:13Gen 3:24Gen 13:102Ki 19:12Ezk 31:8-9Gen 4:16Jol 2:3Isa 51:3 Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Gen 3:22Rev 2:7Rev 22:14Rev 22:2Ezk 47:12Pro 11:30Pro 3:18Gen 2:17

Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters: Rev 22:1Psa 46:4

The name of the first river is Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. Gen 25:181Sa 15:7Gen 10:29Gen 10:7 And the gold of that land is pure, and bdellium and onyx are found there. Ezk 28:13Exo 28:20Job 28:16Exo 39:13Num 11:7

The name of the second river is Gihon; it winds through the whole land of Cush. Gen 10:6Isa 11:11

The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it runs along the east side of Assyria. Dan 10:4Gen 15:18Deu 1:7Deu 11:24Gen 10:11Gen 10:22Gen 25:18Rev 9:14

And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. Psa 128:2Gen 2:8Eph 4:28Gen 2:2Job 31:33

And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden, 1Sa 15:221Ti 4:41Ti 6:17Gen 2:9Gen 3:1-2 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.” Rom 6:23Jas 1:15Gen 3:191Co 15:561Co 15:22Gal 3:10Rev 21:81Jn 5:16

The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.” Ecc 4:9-12Pro 18:221Co 11:7-121Pe 3:71Ti 2:11-13Rut 3:1Gen 1:31Gen 3:12

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. Psa 8:4-8Gen 1:28Gen 1:20-26Gen 9:2Gen 2:22-23Gen 6:20 The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam 5no suitable helper was found. Gen 2:18

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs 6and closed up the area with flesh. Gen 15:12Job 4:131Sa 26:12Dan 8:18Job 33:15Pro 19:15 And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him. 1Co 11:8-91Ti 2:13Heb 13:4Pro 18:22Pro 19:14Gen 2:19Psa 127:1 And the man said: Eph 5:28-301Co 11:8-92Sa 5:1Gen 29:14Jdg 9:22Sa 19:13

“This is now bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called ‘woman,’

for out of man she was taken.”

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. 7 Mat 19:3-9Eph 5:28-31Mrk 10:6-12Rom 7:21Pe 3:1-71Co 7:2-41Co 6:16-17Pro 31:10

And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed. Gen 3:7Gen 3:10-11Rom 10:11Jer 17:13Jol 2:26Isa 47:3Isa 54:4Exo 32:25
