The Burden against Tyre
(Ezekiel 26:1–21)
This is the burden against Tyre: Jol 3:4-8Amo 1:9-10Gen 10:4Isa 2:16Jer 25:22Jer 47:41Ki 10:221Ki 22:48
Wail, O ships of Tarshish, 1
for Tyre is laid waste,
without house or harbor.
Word has reached them
from the land of Cyprus. 2
Be silent, O dwellers of the coastland, Isa 47:5Ezk 27:3-4Ezk 27:8-36Ezk 28:2Hab 2:20Isa 41:1Psa 46:10
you merchants of Sidon,
whose traders have crossed the sea. 3
On the great waters 1Ch 13:5Jer 2:18Deu 11:10Ezk 27:3-23Ezk 27:33Ezk 28:4Isa 19:7Isa 23:8
came the grain of Shihor;
the harvest of the Nile was the revenue of Tyre;
she was the merchant of the nations.
Be ashamed, O Sidon, the stronghold of the sea, Rev 18:23Ezk 26:3-6Gen 10:15Gen 10:19Hos 9:11-14Jer 47:3-4
for the sea has spoken:
“I have not been in labor
or given birth.
I have not raised young men
or brought up young women.”
When the report reaches Egypt, Exo 15:14-16Jos 2:9-11Ezk 26:15-21Ezk 27:29-36Ezk 28:19Rev 18:17-19Isa 19:16
they will writhe in agony over the news of Tyre.
Cross over to Tarshish; Isa 23:12Isa 16:7Isa 21:15Isa 23:10Isa 23:1-2
wail, O inhabitants of the coastland!
Is this your jubilant city, Isa 22:2Ecc 10:7Isa 32:13Isa 47:1-2Jos 19:29
whose origin is from antiquity,
whose feet have taken her
to settle far away?
Who planned this against Tyre, Deu 29:24-28Ezk 28:12-18Ezk 28:2-6Isa 10:8Isa 36:9Jer 50:44-45Rev 18:8
the bestower of crowns,
whose traders are princes,
whose merchants are renowned on the earth?
The LORD of Hosts planned it, Isa 13:11Jas 4:6Job 40:11-12Isa 2:11Dan 4:371Co 1:26-29Act 4:28Eph 1:11
to defile all its glorious beauty,
to disgrace all the renowned of the earth.
Cultivate 4your land like the Nile, O Daughter of Tarshish; 1Sa 28:20Isa 23:14Job 12:21Psa 18:32Hag 2:22Lam 1:6Rom 5:6
there is no longer a harbor.
The LORD has stretched out His hand over the sea; Zec 9:3-4Exo 14:21Exo 15:8-10Ezk 26:10Ezk 26:15-19Ezk 27:34-35Ezk 31:16Gen 10:15-19
He has made kingdoms tremble.
He has given a command
that the strongholds of Canaan be destroyed.
He said, “You shall rejoice no more, Rev 18:22Ezk 26:13-14Isa 23:1-2Isa 47:1Deu 28:64-67Ezk 27:6Gen 10:15-19Gen 49:13
O oppressed Virgin Daughter of Sidon.
Get up and cross over to Cyprus—
even there you will find no rest.”
Look at the land of the Chaldeans 5— Hab 1:62Ch 33:112Ki 17:242Ki 20:12Act 7:4Dan 4:30Ezk 26:7-21Ezk 29:18
a people now of no account.
The Assyrians destined it for the desert creatures;
they set up their siege towers and stripped its palaces.
They brought it to ruin.
Wail, O ships of Tarshish, Isa 23:1Ezk 27:25-30Isa 2:16Isa 23:6Rev 18:11-19
for your harbor has been destroyed!
At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years—the span of a king’s life. But at the end of seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the harlot: Jer 25:22Dan 7:14Dan 8:21Ezk 27:25Ezk 29:11Hos 2:15Jer 25:9-11Jer 27:3-7
“Take up your harp, Jer 30:14Pro 7:10-12
stroll through the city,
O forgotten harlot.
Make sweet melody,
sing many a song,
so you will be remembered.”
And at the end of seventy years, the LORD will restore Tyre. Then she will return to hire as a prostitute and sell herself to all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.
