Hezekiah’s Illness and Recovery

(2 Kings 20:1–11; 2 Chronicles 32:24–31)

In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’” 2Ch 32:24Isa 38:1-82Ki 20:1-112Sa 17:23Jon 3:10Act 9:37Isa 37:21Php 2:27-30

Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, Mat 6:61Ki 8:30Psa 50:15Psa 91:15 saying, “Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what was good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Heb 5:7Heb 6:10Psa 18:20-27Neh 13:142Ch 31:20-212Co 1:12Deu 6:18Jhn 1:47

And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, “Go and tell Hezekiah that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. 1Jn 5:14-15Psa 34:5-6Rev 7:17Luk 1:13Psa 147:3Psa 56:82Ki 19:202Co 7:6 And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city. 1 Isa 37:35Isa 12:6Isa 31:4-52Ch 32:222Ti 4:17 This will be a sign to you from the LORD that He will do what He has promised: Isa 37:30Jdg 6:37-392Ki 20:8-21Isa 7:11-14Jdg 6:17-22Gen 9:13Isa 38:22 I will make the sun’s shadow that falls on the stairway of Ahaz go back ten steps.’” 2Ki 20:9-11Jos 10:12-142Ch 32:24Mat 16:12Ch 32:31

So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had descended.

Hezekiah’s Song of Thanksgiving

I will no longer look on mankind

with those who dwell in this world.
