Isaiah’s Commission

(Matthew 13:10–17; Mark 4:10–12; Acts 28:16–31)

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe 1filled the temple. Jhn 12:41Rev 15:8Dan 7:9Rev 7:15-17Psa 113:5Mat 25:31Isa 66:1Jhn 1:18 Above Him stood seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. Rev 4:8Ezk 1:11Psa 103:20Psa 104:41Ki 6:24Isa 6:6Psa 18:10Zec 3:4 And they were calling out to one another: Rev 4:8-9Psa 72:19Exo 15:11Ezr 3:11Num 14:21Exo 15:20-21Isa 11:9-10Isa 40:5

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts;

all the earth is full of His glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke. Rev 15:81Ki 8:10-122Ch 5:13Exo 40:34Rev 11:19Ezk 10:5Amo 9:1Psa 18:8

Then I said: Luk 5:8-9Jas 3:6-10Jer 1:6Jer 9:3-8Mat 12:34-37Exo 6:30Exo 4:10Ezk 2:6-8

“Woe is me,

for I am ruined,

because I am a man of unclean lips

dwelling among a people of unclean lips;

for my eyes have seen the King,

the LORD of Hosts.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. Rev 8:3-5Heb 9:22-26Ezk 10:2Heb 1:7Heb 13:10Isa 6:2Lev 16:12Act 2:3 And with it he touched my mouth and said: Jer 1:91Jn 1:7Isa 43:25Dan 10:16Heb 9:13-14Isa 53:10Isa 53:5Mat 9:2

“Now that this has touched your lips,

your iniquity is removed

and your sin is atoned for.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: Exo 4:10-13Act 26:16-17Eph 3:8Act 22:21Isa 65:1Mat 4:20-22Act 20:24Deu 4:33-36

“Whom shall I send?

Who will go for Us?”

And I said:

“Here am I. Send me!”

And He replied: Mat 13:14-15Luk 8:10Mrk 4:12Jhn 12:40Act 28:26-27Rom 11:8Isa 29:13Isa 43:8

“Go and tell this people,

‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;

be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ 2

Make the hearts of this people calloused; Mat 13:15Act 28:27Jer 5:21Jer 6:10Jhn 3:19-20Zec 7:11Isa 29:10Isa 63:17

deafen their ears and close their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes,

hear with their ears,

understand with their hearts,

and turn and be healed. 3

Then I asked: Isa 1:7Isa 24:1-12Isa 3:26Lev 26:31Psa 90:13Psa 94:3Psa 79:5Psa 74:10

“How long, O Lord?”

And He replied:

“Until the cities lie ruined

and without inhabitant,

until the houses are left unoccupied

and the land is desolate and ravaged,

until the LORD has driven men far away Jer 4:29Deu 28:642Ki 25:112Ki 25:21Isa 26:15Jer 12:7Jer 15:4Jer 52:28-30

it will be burned again.

As the terebinth and oak leave stumps when felled,

so the holy seed will be a stump in the land.”
