The Murder of Gedaliah
(2 Kings 25:25–26)
In the seventh month, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was a member of the royal family and one of the king’s chief officers, came with ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah, and they ate a meal together there. On the second day after the murder of Gedaliah, when no one yet knew about it, 1Sa 27:11Psa 52:1-2 eighty men who had shaved off their beards, torn their garments, and cut themselves came from Shechem, Shiloh, and Samaria, carrying grain offerings and frankincense for the house of the LORD. 1Ki 16:242Ki 25:9Deu 14:1Jos 18:11Ki 12:1Gen 33:18Jdg 9:11Ki 12:25 And Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. 2Sa 3:16Jer 50:42Sa 1:2-16Pro 26:23-26
When Ishmael encountered the men, he said, “Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.” And when they came into the city, Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the men with him slaughtered them and threw them into a cistern. Ezk 22:27Isa 59:7Psa 55:231Ki 15:28-291Ki 16:10-122Ki 11:1-22Ki 15:25Ezk 33:24-26

Now the cistern into which Ishmael had thrown all the bodies of the men he had struck down along with Gedaliah was a large one that King Asa had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain. 1Ki 15:17-221Sa 13:62Ch 16:1-102Sa 17:9Jdg 6:21Sa 14:111Sa 14:221Sa 24:3
Then Ishmael took captive all the remnant of the people of Mizpah—the daughters of the king along with all the others who remained in Mizpah—over whom Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them captive and set off to cross over to the Ammonites. Jer 40:14Jer 40:7Jer 40:11-12Neh 2:10Neh 2:19Jer 22:30Jer 39:6Jer 43:5-7
