Judgment on Egypt

This is the word of the LORD about the nations—the word that came to Jeremiah the prophet Jer 1:10Zec 2:8Gen 10:5Jer 25:15-38Jer 4:7Num 23:9Rom 3:29 concerning Egypt and the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah: 2Ki 23:29Ezk 29:1-21Isa 10:9Jer 25:1Jer 25:19Jer 36:1Jer 45:1Jer 46:14

They are terrified,

they are retreating;

their warriors are defeated,

they flee in haste without looking back;

terror is on every side!”

declares the LORD.

“The swift cannot flee, Dan 11:19Jer 46:12Amo 9:1-3Amo 2:14-15Ecc 9:11Isa 30:16-17Isa 8:15Jdg 4:15-21

In the north by the River Euphrates

they stumble and fall.

like rivers whose waters churn?

a day of vengeance against His foes.

The sword will devour until it is satisfied,

until it is quenched with their blood.

For the Lord GOD of Hosts will hold a sacrifice

in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.

This is the word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt: Jer 43:10-13Jer 44:30Isa 19:1-25Isa 29:1-24

They continue to stumble; Lev 26:36-37Jer 51:9Jer 46:21Jer 46:6Jer 50:16

indeed, they have fallen over one another.

They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people

and to the land of our birth,

away from the sword of the oppressor.’

There they will cry out: Isa 19:11-161Ki 20:10Exo 15:91Ki 20:18Ezk 29:3Ezk 31:18Isa 31:3Isa 37:27-29

together they will flee, they will not stand their ground,

the time of their punishment.

The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I am about to punish Amon god of Thebes, 4 along with Pharaoh, Egypt with her gods and kings, and those who trust in Pharaoh. Yet I will discipline you justly,

and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
