Psalms 73—89

Surely God Is Good to Israel

A Psalm of Asaph.

Surely God is good to Israel, Mat 5:8Psa 51:10Luk 12:32Psa 84:11Jas 4:8Jhn 1:47Rom 2:28-291Ch 25:1-6

to those who are pure in heart.

But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; Psa 94:181Sa 2:9Psa 116:8Psa 38:16Psa 17:5Jos 24:15Psa 17:15Psa 5:7

my steps had nearly slipped.

For I envied the arrogant Job 21:7Jer 12:1Pro 23:17Psa 37:7Psa 37:1Pro 24:1Jas 4:5Pro 3:31

when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

They have no struggle in their death; Job 21:23-24Ecc 2:16Luk 16:22Psa 17:14Ecc 7:15Job 24:20Psa 17:10

their bodies are well-fed.

They are free of the burdens others carry; Job 21:9Psa 73:12Jer 12:1-2Rev 3:191Co 11:32Heb 12:8Job 21:6Pro 3:11-12

they are not afflicted like other men.

Therefore pride is their necklace; Psa 109:181Pe 5:5Dan 4:30Jdg 8:26Pro 1:9Pro 3:31Deu 32:15Deu 8:13-14

a garment of violence covers them.

From their prosperity proceeds iniquity; 1 Jer 5:28Job 15:27Psa 17:10Psa 73:121Sa 25:21Sa 25:36Ezk 16:49Isa 3:9

the imaginations of their hearts run wild.

They mock and speak with malice; Jud 1:16Psa 17:10Psa 10:22Pe 2:102Pe 2:18Jer 7:9-11Pro 30:13-14Psa 10:10-11

with arrogance they threaten oppression.

They set their mouths against the heavens, Rev 13:6Exo 5:2Jas 3:62Ch 32:15Dan 3:15Dan 7:25Luk 18:4Job 21:14

and their tongues strut across the earth.

So their people 2return to this place Psa 75:8

and drink up waters in abundance.

The wicked say, “How can God know? Hos 7:2Zep 1:12Ezk 8:12Job 22:13-14Psa 73:9Psa 94:7Psa 10:11Psa 139:1-6

Does the Most High have knowledge?”

Behold, these are the wicked— Psa 52:7Hos 12:7-8Jer 5:28Jas 5:1-3Jer 12:1-2Jer 5:17Luk 16:19Psa 17:14

always carefree as they increase their wealth.

Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure; Job 21:15Psa 26:6Job 34:9Job 35:3Heb 10:19-22Jas 4:8Mal 3:14Psa 51:10

in innocence I have washed my hands.

For I am afflicted all day long Heb 12:5Psa 94:121Pe 1:6Amo 3:2Jer 15:18Job 7:3-4Psa 34:19Job 10:17

and punished every morning.

If I had said, “I will speak this way,” Mal 2:8Mat 18:6-7Psa 24:6Rom 14:151Pe 2:9Psa 14:5Psa 22:30Rom 14:21

then I would have betrayed Your children.

When I tried to understand all this, Ecc 8:17Jhn 16:18-19Luk 18:32-34Pro 30:2-3Psa 36:6Psa 39:6Psa 77:19Psa 97:2

it was troublesome in my sight

until I entered God’s sanctuary; Luk 12:20Psa 77:13Ecc 8:12-13Psa 27:4Psa 119:24Psa 37:37-38Psa 63:2Jer 5:31

then I discerned their end.

Surely You set them on slick ground; Jer 23:12Psa 35:6Deu 32:352Th 1:9Psa 55:23Psa 94:23Psa 37:20Psa 37:35-38

You cast them down into ruin.

How suddenly they are laid waste, Isa 47:11Dan 5:6Pro 28:11Th 5:3Isa 30:13Job 15:21Job 20:5Rev 18:10

completely swept away by terrors!

Like one waking from a dream, Job 20:8Psa 78:65Isa 29:7-8Psa 39:6Psa 7:6Psa 90:5

so You, O Lord, awaken and despise their form.

When my heart was grieved Psa 37:7Lam 3:13Psa 73:3Job 16:13Psa 37:1

and I was pierced within,

I was senseless and ignorant; Ecc 3:18Psa 92:6Isa 1:3Psa 49:10Pro 30:2Psa 32:9Job 18:3Psa 69:5

I was a brute beast before You.

Yet I am always with You; Isa 41:13Psa 63:8Mat 28:20Heb 13:5Psa 16:8Psa 23:4Mat 1:23Isa 41:10

You hold my right hand.

You guide me with Your counsel, Psa 32:8Isa 58:11Pro 3:5-6Isa 48:17Psa 48:14Psa 25:9Isa 30:21Jas 1:5

and later receive me in glory.

And on earth I desire no one besides You.

but God is the strength 3of my heart

and my portion forever.

I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,
