Ben Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, with horses and chariots. He went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it. 1Ki 15:181Ki 15:201Ki 22:311Ki 16:241Ki 20:161Ki 20:241Sa 13:52Ch 16:2-4 He sent messengers into the city to Ahab king of Israel and said to him, “Ben Hadad says, 2Ki 19:9Isa 36:2-22Isa 37:9-10 ‘Your silver and your gold are mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.’” Exo 15:9Isa 10:13-14
The king of Israel answered, “It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have.” 1Sa 13:6-72Ki 18:14-16Deu 28:48Jdg 15:11-13Lev 26:36
The messengers came again and said, “Ben Hadad says, ‘I sent indeed to you, saying, “You shall deliver me your silver, your gold, your wives, and your children; but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they will search your house and the houses of your servants. Whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they will put it in their hand, and take it away.”’” 1Sa 13:19-212Ki 18:31-322Sa 24:14Ezr 8:27Gen 27:15Hos 13:15Isa 44:9Jer 25:34
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, “Please notice how this man seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I didn’t deny him.” 2Ki 5:71Ch 13:11Ch 28:11Ki 8:1Dan 11:27Job 15:35Pro 11:14Pro 11:27
All the elders and all the people said to him, “Don’t listen, and don’t consent.”
Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do, but this thing I cannot do.’”
The messengers departed and brought him back the message. Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, “The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria will be enough for handfuls for all the people who follow me.” 1Ki 19:2Exo 11:82Ki 19:23-242Sa 17:12-13Act 23:12Isa 10:13-14Isa 37:24-25Jdg 4:10

When Ben Hadad heard this message as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, he said to his servants, “Prepare to attack!” So they prepared to attack the city. 1Ki 16:91Ki 20:16Pro 31:4-51Sa 25:362Sa 13:28Dan 5:2Dan 5:30Eph 5:18
Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “The LORD says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’” 1Ki 20:28Ezk 20:222Ki 7:1Exo 14:18Exo 16:12Ezk 20:14Isa 37:20Isa 7:1-9
Ahab said, “By whom?” 1Co 1:27-291Ki 18:441Sa 17:50Gen 14:14-16Jdg 7:16-20
He said, “The LORD says, ‘By the young men of the princes of the provinces.’”
Then he said, “Who shall begin the battle?”
He answered, “You.”
Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand. 1Ki 19:181Sa 14:21Sa 14:62Ch 14:112Ki 13:7Jdg 7:16Jdg 7:7Psa 106:40-43 They went out at noon. But Ben Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him. 1Ki 16:71Ki 16:91Ki 20:11-12Ecc 10:16-17Hos 4:11Isa 54:15Pro 23:29-32 The young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, “Men are coming out from Samaria.” 1Ki 20:14-151Ki 20:19
He said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive.” 2Ki 14:8-121Sa 14:11-121Sa 17:441Sa 2:3-4Pro 18:12
So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them. They each killed his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen. 1Sa 14:13-151Sa 30:16-172Ki 19:362Ki 7:6-72Sa 2:16Ecc 9:11Jdg 7:20-22Lev 26:8 The king of Israel went out and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter. 1Sa 14:20-221Sa 17:522Ki 3:182Ki 3:24Jdg 3:28Jdg 7:23-25 The prophet came near to the king of Israel and said to him, “Go, strengthen yourself, and plan what you must do, for at the return of the year, the king of Syria will come up against you.” 2Sa 11:11Ki 20:131Ki 20:261Ch 20:11Ki 19:101Ki 20:381Ki 22:82Ch 25:11
The servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. He listened to their voice and did so. Then he said, “Go, bring him.”
Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. Ben Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” 1Ki 15:201Ki 20:42Isa 26:101Ki 22:312Ch 16:42Ch 18:30Isa 8:12
“I”, said Ahab, “will let you go with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him and let him go.
A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the LORD’s word, “Please strike me!” 1Ki 13:17-182Ki 2:152Ki 4:11Ki 13:1-21Ki 20:37-381Sa 10:122Ki 2:3-72Ki 4:38

Then he found another man, and said, “Please strike me.” 1Ki 20:35Exo 21:12
The man struck him and wounded him. So the prophet departed and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes. 1Ki 14:21Ki 22:302Sa 14:2Mat 6:16 As the king passed by, he cried to the king, and he said, “Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man! The king of Israel said to him, “So shall your judgment be. You yourself have decided it.”
He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was one of the prophets. 1Ki 20:382Sa 13:19Jer 6:26Job 2:8 He said to him, “The LORD says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’” 1Ki 22:31-372Ch 18:33-341Ki 20:391Ki 20:341Sa 15:9-112Ki 6:242Ki 8:12
