Fire from Heaven

(Psalms 136:1–26)

When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple. 1Ki 18:381Ch 21:26Lev 9:23-241Ki 18:24Ezk 43:5Ezk 44:4Gen 15:17Mal 3:1-2 The priests were unable to enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled it. Rev 15:82Ch 5:14Exo 24:17Isa 6:5

When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD: 2Ch 5:132Ch 20:21Heb 7:24-25Luk 1:50Ezr 3:11Isa 63:7Exo 4:31Psa 136:1-26

“For He is good;

His loving devotion endures forever.”

Sacrifices of Dedication

(1 Kings 8:62–66)

Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD. 1Ki 8:62-63 And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God. Jhn 10:222Ch 30:24Ezk 45:171Ch 29:211Ki 8:62-632Ch 1:62Ch 15:112Ch 2:4

The priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites with the musical instruments of the LORD, which King David had made for giving thanks to the LORD and with which David had offered praise, saying, “For His loving devotion endures forever.” Across from the Levites, the priests sounded trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing. 2Ch 5:121Ch 15:16-212Ch 7:31Ch 13:81Ch 15:241Ch 16:341Ch 16:39-421Ch 16:4-6

Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings. 1Ki 8:64-66Heb 13:10-122Ch 36:142Ch 4:1Num 16:37-38

So at that time Solomon and all Israel with him—a very great assembly of people from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of Egypt—kept the feast 1for seven days. On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people away to their homes, joyful and glad of heart for the good things that the LORD had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel. 1Ki 8:66Psa 100:22Ch 29:362Ch 30:262Ch 6:41Act 16:34Act 2:46Deu 12:12

The LORD’s Response to Solomon

(1 Kings 9:1–9)

When Solomon had finished the house of the LORD and the royal palace, successfully carrying out all that was in his heart to do for the house of the LORD and for his own palace, 1Ki 9:1-92Ch 2:1Ecc 2:10-11Ecc 2:4 the LORD appeared to him at night and said to him: Gen 17:11Ki 9:22Ch 1:72Ch 7:161Jn 5:14-152Ki 20:5Act 10:31Deu 12:11
