Hagar and Ishmael
Now Abram’s wife Sarai had borne him no children, but she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar. Gal 4:24Gen 12:16Gen 15:2-3Gen 21:9-10Gen 11:30Gen 21:12Gen 21:21Gen 25:21 So Sarai said to Abram, “Look now, the LORD has prevented me from bearing children. Please go to my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family by her.” Exo 21:4Gen 18:10Gen 3:17Gen 17:16Gen 20:18Gen 25:21Gen 3:1-6Gen 3:12
And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. So after he had lived in Canaan for ten years, his wife Sarai took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to Abram to be his wife. Gen 12:4-5Gen 16:52Sa 5:131Ki 11:3Gal 4:25Gen 25:6Gen 28:9Gen 30:4 And he slept with Hagar, and she conceived. But when Hagar realized that she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. 1 2Sa 6:16Pro 30:231Co 13:4-51Co 4:61Sa 1:6-8Pro 30:20-21
Then Sarai said to Abram, “May the wrong done to me be upon you! I delivered my servant into your arms, and ever since she saw that she was pregnant, she has treated me with contempt. May the LORD judge between you and me.” Gen 31:53Exo 5:211Sa 24:12-152Ch 24:22Luk 10:40-41Psa 35:23Psa 7:8Psa 43:1
“Here,” said Abram, “your servant is in your hands. Do whatever you want with her.” Then Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she fled from her. Jer 38:51Pe 3:7Ecc 10:4Exo 2:15Gen 13:8-9Gen 24:10Job 2:6Pro 14:29
Now the angel 2of the LORD found Hagar by a spring of water in the desert—the spring along the road to Shur. Exo 15:22Gen 21:17Gen 25:18Pro 15:31Sa 15:7Gen 20:1Gen 22:11Gen 22:15 “Hagar, servant of Sarai,” he said, “where have you come from, and where are you going?” Gen 3:9Gen 4:10Ecc 10:4Jer 2:17-181Sa 26:191Ti 6:1-2Eph 6:5-8Gen 16:1
“I am running away from my mistress Sarai,” she replied.
So the angel of the LORD told her, “Return to your mistress and submit to her authority.” 1Pe 5:5-61Pe 2:18-25Ecc 10:4Eph 5:21Eph 6:5-6Tit 2:9 Then the angel added, “I will greatly multiply your offspring so that they will be too numerous to count.” Gen 17:20Psa 83:6-7Gen 21:13Gen 21:18Gen 22:15-18Gen 25:12-18Act 7:30-38Exo 3:2-6
The angel of the LORD proceeded: Exo 2:23-24Exo 3:7Isa 7:141Sa 1:20Gen 17:19Gen 41:51-52Exo 3:9Job 38:41
“Behold, you have conceived and will bear a son.
And you shall name him Ishmael, 3
for the LORD has heard your cry of affliction.
He will be a wild donkey of a man, Gen 21:20Gen 25:18Job 39:5-8Gen 27:40Job 11:12
and his hand will be against everyone,
and everyone’s hand against him;
he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers.”
So Hagar gave this name to the LORD who had spoken to her: “You are the God who sees me, 4” for she said, “Here I have seen the One who sees me!” Psa 139:1-12Gen 32:30Pro 15:3Pro 5:21Gen 16:7Gen 31:42Gen 22:14Exo 34:5-7 Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi. 5 It is located between Kadesh and Bered. And Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. Gen 25:121Ch 1:28Gal 4:22-23Gen 16:11Gen 17:18Gen 17:20Gen 17:25-26Gen 21:9-21 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him.
