The Burden against Moab
(Jeremiah 48:1–47)
This is the burden against Moab: Amo 2:1-3Jer 48:1-47Ezk 25:8-11Isa 11:14Num 21:281Th 5:1-3Isa 14:28Isa 16:11
Ar in Moab is ruined,
destroyed in a night!
Kir in Moab is devastated,
destroyed in a night!
Dibon goes up to its temple Jer 48:1Lev 21:5Deu 34:1Isa 3:24Jer 47:5Jer 48:18Num 21:30Deu 14:1
to weep at its high places.
Moab wails over Nebo,
as well as over Medeba.
Every head is shaved,
every beard is cut off.
In its streets they wear sackcloth; Jon 3:6-82Ki 6:302Sa 3:31Deu 22:8Isa 15:2Isa 22:1Isa 22:4Jer 19:13
on the rooftops and in the public squares
they all wail, falling down weeping.
Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; Jer 48:341Ki 19:4Deu 2:32Gen 27:46Isa 16:8-9Jdg 11:20Jer 20:18Jer 8:3
their voices are heard as far as Jahaz.
Therefore the soldiers of Moab cry out;
their souls tremble within.
My heart cries out over Moab; Jer 48:5Jer 4:20Jer 48:31-36Luk 19:41-442Sa 15:232Sa 15:30Gen 13:10Gen 14:2

as far as Eglath-shelishiyah. 1
With weeping they ascend the slope of Luhith;
they lament their destruction on the road to Horonaim.
The waters of Nimrim are dried up, Isa 19:5-7Jol 1:10-12Num 32:36Hab 3:17-18Isa 16:9-10Jos 13:27Num 32:3Rev 8:7
and the grass is withered;
the vegetation is gone,
and the greenery is no more.
So they carry their wealth and belongings Jer 48:36Isa 10:14Isa 10:6Isa 30:6Isa 5:29Nam 2:12-13Psa 137:1-2
over the Brook of the Willows. 2
For their outcry echoes to the border of Moab. Ezk 47:10Isa 15:2-5Jer 48:20-24Jer 48:31-34
Their wailing reaches Eglaim;
it is heard in Beer-elim.
The waters of Dimon 3are full of blood, 2Ki 17:25Amo 5:19Jer 15:3Jer 48:43-45Jer 50:17Lev 26:18Lev 26:21-22Lev 26:24
but I will bring more upon Dimon—
a lion upon the fugitives of Moab
and upon the remnant of the land.
