Hezekiah Shows His Treasures

(2 Kings 20:12–19)

At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard about Hezekiah’s illness and recovery. 2Ki 20:12-192Ch 32:232Sa 10:22Sa 8:10Isa 13:19Isa 39:1-82Ch 32:31Isa 13:1 And Hezekiah welcomed the envoys gladly and showed them what was in his treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his entire armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them. 2Ch 32:252Ch 32:31Jer 17:9Job 31:25Psa 146:3-41Ki 10:101Ki 10:151Ki 10:2

Then the prophet Isaiah went to King Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?” Deu 28:492Ch 16:72Sa 12:1Jer 5:152Ch 25:152Ki 20:14-15Isa 38:1Isa 38:5

“They came to me from a distant land,” Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”

“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. 1Jn 1:9Job 31:33Jos 7:19Pro 23:5Pro 28:13

“They have seen everything in my palace,” answered Hezekiah. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”

Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD of Hosts: 1Sa 13:13-141Sa 15:16 The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. 2Ki 25:13-152Ki 24:13Jer 20:5Dan 1:22Ch 36:102Ch 36:182Ki 20:17-19Jer 27:21-22 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” Dan 1:1-72Ch 36:102Ki 24:122Ch 33:112Ch 36:202Ki 24:152Ki 25:6-7Ezk 17:12-20

But Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “At least there will be peace and security in my lifetime.” 2Ch 32:262Ch 34:281Pe 5:61Sa 3:18Job 1:21Lam 3:39Lev 10:3Psa 39:9
