A Warning to Judah’s Kings

This is what the LORD says: “Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there, Jer 34:21Ki 21:18-201Sa 15:16-232Ch 19:2-32Ch 25:15-162Ch 33:102Sa 12:12Sa 24:11-12 saying, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, who sits on the throne of David—you and your officials and your people who enter these gates. Luk 1:32Isa 1:10Isa 9:7Jer 22:41Ki 22:19Amo 7:16Ezk 34:7Isa 28:14 This is what the LORD says: Administer justice and righteousness. Rescue the victim of robbery from the hand of his oppressor. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Do not shed innocent blood in this place. Jer 21:12Jer 22:17Mic 6:8Jas 1:27Ezk 22:7Isa 1:15-20Mal 3:5Zec 7:9-11

For if you will indeed carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David’s throne will enter through the gates of this palace riding on chariots and horses—they and their officials and their people. Jer 17:25 But if you do not obey these words, then I swear by Myself, declares the LORD, that this house will become a pile of rubble.’” Amo 6:8Gen 22:16Heb 6:13Jer 17:27Deu 32:40-42Isa 1:20Jer 26:6-9Jer 39:8

A Warning about the Palace

For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of Judah: Isa 6:11Psa 107:34Isa 27:10Jer 9:11Mic 3:12Gen 37:25Jer 26:18Jer 7:34

“You are like Gilead to Me,

like the summit of Lebanon;

but I will surely turn you into a desert,

like cities that are uninhabited.

I will appoint destroyers against you, Isa 10:33-34Isa 37:24Jer 4:6-7Ezk 9:1-7Isa 13:3-5Jer 21:14Isa 10:3-7Isa 27:10-11

and they will cut down the choicest of your cedars

and throw them into the fire.

And many nations will pass by this city and ask one another, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?’ 1Ki 9:8-92Ch 7:20-22Deu 29:23-26Lam 2:15-17Dan 9:7Jer 16:10Lam 4:12

Then people will reply, ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God and have worshiped and served other gods.’” 2Ch 34:252Ki 22:17Deu 29:25-28Jer 2:17-19Jer 40:2-3Jer 50:7

A Warning about Shallum

Do not weep for the dead king; Ecc 4:2Jer 22:11Isa 57:1Lam 4:92Ch 35:23-252Ki 22:202Ki 23:30-34Jer 22:18

do not mourn his loss.

Weep bitterly for the one who is exiled,

for he will never return

to see his native land.

For this is what the LORD says concerning Shallum 1son of Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father Josiah but has gone forth from this place: “He will never return, 1Ch 3:152Ch 36:1-42Ki 23:342Ch 28:122Ch 34:222Ki 23:31 but he will die in the place to which he was exiled; he will never see this land again.” 2Ki 23:34Jer 22:18

A Warning about Jehoiakim

“Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, Jas 5:4Lev 19:13Mic 3:10Deu 24:14-15Mal 3:5Hab 2:9-112Ch 36:4Jer 22:18

and his upper rooms without justice,

who makes his countrymen serve without pay,

and fails to pay their wages,

who says, ‘I will build myself a great palace, 2Sa 7:2Hag 1:4Isa 5:8-92Ch 3:5Dan 4:30Isa 9:9Luk 14:28-29Mal 1:4

with spacious upper rooms.’

So he cuts windows in it,

panels it with cedar,

and paints it with vermilion.

Does it make you a king to excel 2in cedar? 2Ki 23:25Isa 3:10Ecc 10:17Pro 25:5Pro 29:42Ki 22:2Psa 128:1-21Ki 10:9

Did not your father have food and drink?

He administered justice and righteousness,

and so it went well with him.

He took up the cause of the poor and needy, Jer 9:241Jn 2:3-4Isa 1:17Tit 1:16Jhn 17:3Psa 72:1-4Psa 72:12-13Jer 9:16

and so it went well with him.

Is this not what it means to know Me?”

declares the LORD.

“But your eyes and heart are set on nothing 2Ki 24:42Pe 2:14Ezk 19:6Jer 22:3Ezk 33:31Psa 10:31Co 6:101Ki 21:19

except your own dishonest gain,

on shedding innocent blood,

on practicing extortion and oppression.”

Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: 1Ki 13:30Jer 16:6Jer 16:4Jer 22:102Ch 21:19-202Ch 35:252Sa 1:262Sa 3:33-38

A Warning to Coniah

“As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Coniah 4son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a signet ring on My right hand, I would pull you off. Jer 37:11Ch 3:16Sng 8:62Ki 24:6-8Hag 2:23Jer 22:28Jer 22:6Mat 1:11-12 In fact, I will hand you over to those you dread, who want to take your life—to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to the Chaldeans. 5 Jer 21:7Jer 34:20-212Ki 24:15-16Jer 22:28Jer 38:16Pro 10:24 I will hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another land, where neither of you were born—and there you both will die. 2Ki 24:152Ki 24:8Isa 22:17Jer 15:2-42Ch 36:9-10Ezk 19:9-14 You will never return to the land for which you long.” Jer 44:142Ki 25:27-30Jer 22:11Jer 52:31-34Psa 86:4

to sit on the throne of David

or to rule again in Judah.”
