The Birth of Jesus

(Isaiah 7:10–16; Luke 2:1–7)

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Gal 4:4-5Luk 1:27-38Heb 10:5Job 14:4Gen 3:15Heb 7:26Job 15:14Luk 1:25 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly. Deu 22:21-24Deu 24:1-4Jhn 8:4-5Mrk 6:20Gen 38:24Lev 20:10Luk 2:25Psa 112:4-5

But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. Pro 3:5-6Luk 1:19Mat 1:18Jol 2:28Luk 2:4Mat 2:19Gen 31:11Isa 26:3 She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, 4 because He will save His people from their sins.” Act 13:23Act 4:12Jhn 1:291Jn 3:5Col 1:20-23Luk 2:21Act 5:31Luk 1:31

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Luk 24:441Ki 8:15Mat 2:23Act 3:181Ki 8:24Ezr 1:1Jhn 17:12Jhn 18:9

“Behold, the virgin will be with child Isa 7:14Isa 9:6-7Psa 46:11Jhn 1:14Isa 12:21Ti 3:16Psa 46:7Rom 1:3-4

and will give birth to a son,

and they will call Him Immanuel” 5

(which means, “God with us” 6).

When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and embraced Mary as his wife.
